Following on from an intense and hard fought win against Newcastle in midweek, we turn our attention back to La Liga. Where another battle awaits. This time in the shape of Getafe. Live from 9pm local time, from the Estadi Johan Cruyff. It’s Barça up against Getafe. Let’s jump straight into the preview!
A look at our opponent
Now, we can all pretty much expect whats going to happen. Led by Bordelas, Getafe plays quite possibly the worst kind of football in the world. It sounds like an exaggeration, but it really is the truth. Their coach, Javier Bordelas, likes to associate himself with the likes of Cruyff. Constantly saying he is an inspiration for him, when in reality, the way he sets his teams up to play is the exact opposite of Cruyff’s philosophy.
So, we know that tonight is going to be very difficult. Not necessarily because Getafe are a brilliant team. But like we are all aware, their main purpose is to disrupt. They don’t want to play football. They want to foul. They want to be as physical as possible and want to waste as much time as possible. Getafe haven’t changed out of that and Bordelas hasn’t changed out of his “philosophy” either. So because of that, we can expect a very hard fought game. A frustrating game in our perspective and another physically demanding test for our team.
Predicted Lineup
When it comes to the lineup for the game tonight, I’d expect to see a couple of rotations from the team we saw against Newcastle. It was a very physically demanding game, away from home, so i think its normal for Flick to want to rest a few players. Defensively, I wouldn’t be surprised to see things remain the same.
Araujo was very good against Newcastle, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t start him again. The way he performed in midweek is what we want to see more of. The only question will be over Cubarsi. He’s fit and ready, but he did suffer a knock against Newcastle so Flick may give him some rest tonight.
In midfield too, Frenkie will most likely get a rest. He was unbelievable on Thursday night, and its even more impressive knowing he’d only just came back from injury. However, after playing the full 90, I’d expect to see him get some rest tonight. With Marc Casado returning to the starting lineup. In attack id expect to see things remain the same.
My starting 11:
Joan Garcia
Kounde- Araujo- Eric- Martin
Pedri- Casado
Raphinha- Olmo- Rashford
Lewandowski
