FC Barcelona continues to scan the market for defensive reinforcements ahead of next season. With the club still operating under financial restrictions, the sporting department is paying special attention to players who could arrive without a transfer fee.
One of the names that has recently appeared as a potential opportunity is Marcos Senesi, currently playing for AFC Bournemouth.
The Argentine centre-back will become a free agent on June 30 after his contract expires. According to Bournemouth sporting director Tiago Pinto, the defender will not continue with the English club next season.
The club has already confirmed that Senesi does not feature in their plans for the upcoming project.
Senesi will leave on a free transfer
The decision comes after the player expressed his desire to begin a new chapter away from the Premier League.
This season Senesi has played 30 matches for Bournemouth and has established himself as one of the team’s most reliable defenders. His consistent performances have attracted the attention of several major European clubs.
Teams such as Juventus have been working on a potential deal for some time, while Tottenham Hotspur are also studying the possibility of signing him on a free transfer.
The player would prioritize Barça
In this context, Senesi’s name has also been offered to Barcelona. Inside the club, his profile is seen as an interesting option, particularly because he could arrive without a transfer fee.
According to reports published in Spain, the defender would be willing to sign a three-year contract and would prioritize joining Barcelona if the club decides to move forward with the operation.
However, at the moment he is not the first option on the club’s shortlist.
Bastoni remains the priority
Barcelona’s main target to strengthen the defense remains Alessandro Bastoni, the centre-back from Inter Milan.
The problem is that signing the Italian defender would be significantly more complex financially, with his market value estimated at around €80 million.
For that reason, Barcelona continue to keep an eye on more affordable alternatives such as Senesi.
A decision that will depend on the market
Inside the club there is a clear desire to sign a left-footed centre-back, but the final decision will depend on how the transfer market evolves and how much financial room Barcelona has to operate.
Meanwhile, Marcos Senesi remains attentive to the club’s movements, aware that his free-agent status could turn him into one of the most attractive opportunities of the summer window.
If Barcelona ultimately prioritizes other targets, the Argentine defender is expected to receive several offers from top European clubs.
