Juliano Belletti, the coach of Barça Atlètic, spoke to the club’s media this Friday to discuss the preparations leading up to the team’s debut in the Segunda RFEF this Sunday at noon. The Brazilian coach is also making his debut with Barça Atlètic following a successful stint with the youth team. Here’s what he had to say ahead of the match against Porreres.
“We have worked hard on what we need to accomplish in the match. Our opponent has just been promoted, so they’re surely coming in highly motivated. Playing at home, we must focus on what we always do: controlling the game while showing great respect for an opponent that excels in counter-attacks,” the coach began.
Belletti noted that the preseason for the Blaugrana team was very successful, and he trusts in making a strong performance in the debut: “Honestly, it has been a great preseason. The team looks quite excited, which is something I take advantage of by injecting intensity into the practice sessions. We played good friendly matches, and the experience at Maracanã was very positive. We arrive at the season opener in good form and with high confidence, knowing what we need to do. We take each game as it comes while understanding the goals of Barça Atlètic, and it’s clear the players are very motivated for this.”
The Brazilian emphasized that the primary focus of the team is to develop players: “The first goal as an institution and a team is to better prepare the players for the first team — not just physically and technically, but also mentally. They have to be ready to step up to the first team, and my job as a coach, along with my staff, is to maximize their talent.”
Despite this, he revealed that the group’s aim is for Barça Atlètic to return to the Primera RFEF: “We also have a goal for Barça Atlètic, which is to achieve promotion. However, we need to take it step by step, focusing week by week, thinking about the first team, playing our matches. Of course, we owe it to our supporters and fans to make sure they enjoy our games, and that’s what we intend to do.”
