The Valencia midfielder is liked, but his clause will rise from €40 million to €60 million on August 1.
Javi Guerra is back on FC Barcelona’s agenda during a market full of priorities. The Valencia midfielder is liked for his physique, arrival and line-breaking power from deeper areas. But the blaugrana club are not actively working to close his signing right now.
Deco used a recent meeting with his agent to learn his contractual situation directly. That contact does not mean a formal offensive, but it confirms Barça are watching. The key is his price: €40 million now and €60 million from August.
A clause with a deadline
Javi Guerra’s contract includes a detail that could condition the entire market. His release clause is currently set at €40 million. However, that figure will rise to €60 million from next August 1.
That change leaves Barça with a very specific window if they decide to move seriously. In July, the operation would already be complicated by Barça’s current financial situation. In August, it would become almost impossible without major sales or a creative formula.
Valencia do not want to lose one of their biggest sporting and economic assets. Guerra renewed until 2029, a clear sign of trust from the club. Mestalla have control and will not gift away such an important player.
A profile Flick values
Javi Guerra does not fit the classic mould of Barça’s recent control midfielders. He is a player with stride, power, box arrival and ability to accelerate plays. That profile could be very useful for Hansi Flick in high-rhythm matches.
The German coach wants a more physical, intense squad prepared to win duels. In that idea, Guerra appears as an interesting piece to complement current profiles. He would not replace Pedri or Gavi, but would add something different.
The problem is that Barça already have too many names in midfield. Before considering such an investment, Deco needs exits and clearer priorities. That is why, right now, Guerra is more a monitored opportunity than an immediate operation.
Deco measures the market calmly
Deco’s movement fits a usual strategy during these market weeks. The sporting director talks, asks, measures scenarios and gathers information before deciding. Knowing Guerra’s exact price allows Barça to react if an unexpected window appears.
The club must also decide what happens with players like Marc Casadó in midfield. An important exit could change the minutes distribution and open space for another profile. Without previous moves, signing Guerra would make little sporting or financial sense.
Deco does not want to enter a bidding war that pushes the operation higher. Barça need to spend with precision while still needing attack and defensive reinforcements. That is why interest exists, but caution currently dominates every conversation.
Valencia stand firm
Valencia know the clause works in their favour and the calendar can cool suitors. If no club pays €40 million before August, their position automatically improves. Moving to €60 million greatly reduces the risk of a late uncomfortable exit.
For Guerra, the scenario is not simple either because Mestalla offers continuity and prominence. A move to Barça would be attractive, but minutes would be hard to win. The player must assess project, trust and real role before making any move.
Barça already know the price, but knowing it does not mean paying it. Deco has the information, Flick values the profile and Valencia remain firm. The twist is clear: if Barça want Javi Guerra, July will be the real deadline.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between Barça, Valencia and Javi Guerra.
