The red-and-white club are studying going to FIFA over Barça’s contacts around the Argentine striker.
The Julián Álvarez case is no longer only a transfer-market operation. Atlético Madrid are reportedly willing to take the conflict with FC Barcelona into legal territory. The red-and-white club are studying a complaint to FIFA over the striker’s environment.
Tension has exploded after the Argentine attacker’s latest comments about his future. Julián has made clear he wants to fulfil his dream and may need a move. At Atlético, they believe Barça’s shadow appears behind that movement.
Atlético explode against Barça
The red-and-white anger is not only about Barça’s interest, but how it was managed. In Madrid, they believe Barça have moved too many pieces around a contracted player. The club feel a dangerous line has been crossed during a delicate operation.
Julián Álvarez has a contract with Atlético Madrid until 2030, which changes everything. The red-and-white club do not want to negotiate and feel protected contractually. Any contact without previous permission would be seen as a very serious intrusion.
The threat of going to FIFA represents a huge jump in this battle. This is no longer only about leaks, figures, desires or possible summer offers. Now Atlético want to turn the case into a formal warning for Barça.
The €500 million clause blocks everything
Atlético’s position remains very clear: Julián is not officially for sale. If Barça want to sign him, they point to his €500 million clause. That figure makes any normal negotiation route almost completely impossible right now.
Barça, however, trust that the player’s will could change the board. Deco knows he cannot pay that clause, but could attempt a historic offer. The huge problem is that Atlético do not want to sit down under pressure.
At the Metropolitano, recent precedents have also left wounds between both clubs. The Antoine Griezmann operation still appears as an uncomfortable reference around Atlético. That is why the Julián case feels much bigger than a normal signing.
Julián pushes and Barça wait
The Argentine striker has placed his future at the centre of the market. He has not publicly closed his destination, but made clear he needs change. That gesture was exactly what Barça were waiting for to open a crack.
Hansi Flick considers Julián an ideal piece to rebuild Barça’s attack. His pressing, mobility, competitive character and goals fit perfectly in the new project. Barça see him as the perfect heir to lead a top-level forward line.
But every step from the player increases tension with Atlético Madrid even more. The red-and-white club do not want to lose authority before their supporters. If Julián pushes too far, the complaint could become immediate pressure.
A war that could define the summer
Barça need to act extremely carefully because every movement could have consequences. FIFA could study the case if Atlético build a sufficiently strong file. That means Deco must measure every gesture, call and leak around the player.
The operation remains extremely complicated, although the player’s desire changes many things. A determined footballer can always alter a selling club’s position, even a firm one. But Atlético want to show they will not accept pressure or indirect moves.
The summer now enters an explosive phase, with Julián trapped between desire, contract and threat. Barça wait for an opportunity, while Atlético prepare a hard response in the offices. The twist is clear: Flick’s dream signing could end up becoming a war before FIFA.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between Barça, Atlético Madrid and Julián Álvarez, and no confirmed FIFA resolution.
