Pedri, Cubarsí, Araújo, Bernal and Gavi have publicly named the Argentine as an ideal signing.
Julián Álvarez is not only a desire for Deco or a sporting request from Hansi Flick. The Argentine striker has also become a quiet obsession inside the Barça dressing room. Several FC Barcelona players have spent months publicly pointing to him as a perfect signing.
The list of praise is not minor, because it includes key names in Barça’s present. Pedri, Cubarsí, Araújo, Bernal and Gavi have all spoken about the attacker. And every statement has strengthened one idea: Julián is seen as a Barça-level player.
Pedri opened the path with a clear wink
The first message arrived on January 2, 2024, when Pedri discussed his football preferences. The Canary Islander said he also really liked Julián Álvarez, directly calling him “the spider”. He also explained he supported Argentina at the World Cup because he wanted Messi to win.
That sentence seemed like a simple opinion, but time has given it more weight. Pedri was not speaking about any random name, but a striker fitting Barça’s culture. Technique, mobility, pressing and competitive mentality are all part of Julián’s package.
Months later, the Argentine’s name started repeating around the Barça environment with more force. It was no longer only an isolated preference, but an increasingly mentioned profile. The dressing room began leaving signals that now take on a completely different dimension.
Cubarsí and Bernal were direct
On March 19, 2025, Pau Cubarsí was asked on El Partidazo de COPE about a Barça signing. His answer left no room for interpretation or long explanations. The blaugrana centre-back directly chose Julián Álvarez as the player he would bring.
Months later, on October 16, 2025, Marc Bernal followed exactly the same line. The midfielder also said he would sign Julián Álvarez for Barça. Two important academy players chose the same name, reinforcing a very clear current.
Cubarsí insisted again on February 19, 2026, with an even stronger phrase. He said Julián was spectacular, world-class and clearly Barça level. Coming from a defender who had faced him directly, that message carried special strength.
Araújo raised the message
On February 11, 2026, Ronald Araújo was even more forceful when discussing the Argentine. The Uruguayan said the best players must be at the best club, clearly referring to Barça. He also described Julián as one of the best strikers in the world.
That statement did not go unnoticed in Madrid and created noise around Atlético. Araújo did not speak like a fan, but like a captain and dressing-room leader. His message sounded like a direct invitation and increased tension before any official move.
Barça know those phrases also help build a story around a potential operation. They do not sign players alone, but they create a favourable climate. And with Julián, that climate has been growing inside the group for a long time.
Gavi closed the circle
The latest big message came on June 19, 2026, when Gavi spoke on RAC1. Asked which World Cup player he would sign for Barça, he did not hesitate much. His answer was the same one other teammates had already given: Julián Álvarez.
Gavi’s phrase confirms the Argentine is not only admired inside the club’s offices. He also excites young, important players deeply identified with the blaugrana project. The dressing room seems to have chosen before the market delivers its final verdict.
Atlético can close doors, point to clauses and harden every conversation this summer. But Barça have something they can no longer hide: an increasingly obvious internal consensus. The twist is clear: Julián Álvarez does not only want Barça; Barça, from inside, also want him.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between Barça, Atlético Madrid and Julián Álvarez.
