Alexia Putellas, one of Barça’s most celebrated figures and a global icon in women’s football, continues to garner accolades. The Catalan midfielder is a top contender to claim what would be her third Ballon d’Or. Her outstanding performance on the field last season positions her as the best female player in the world, evidenced by the prestigious award she received this Thursday.
Sofascore Player of the Season
FC Barcelona’s number ’11’ has been honored with the Sofascore Player of the Season award. This accolade is not determined by a subjective jury; instead, the winner is chosen based on performance through the collection of hundreds of statistics. These include goal contributions, chances created, passing accuracy, and defensive actions. After analyzing all these aspects, Alexia topped the ranking with an average score of 8.15.
A True Leader for Club and Country
Undoubtedly, the native of Mollet del Vallès is a leading figure both for FC Barcelona’s women’s team and the Spanish national team, as proven by her impressive stats. Last season, she came close to winning every competition she entered, narrowly missing out in the Champions League and European Championship finals. However, she added another League, another Copa de la Reina, and another Spanish Supercup to her collection.
Legendary Stats
Furthermore, the Catalan midfielder was instrumental in all these victories. In Liga F, she was the top assist provider with 16 assists and the second top scorer with 11 goals, just behind her teammate Ewa Pajor, who scored 25. She was also the player who created the most goal-scoring opportunities (19).
Additionally, combining all the competitions she participated in with Barça and ‘La Roja,’ Alexia scored 28 goals and provided 21 assists. These figures are even more impressive considering that ‘the queen’ is a midfielder, not as close to the goal as the forwards in European football. In fact, between the League and Champions League, she has been the player who created the most clear-chances across the top 5 leagues.
A Growing Legend
Thus, the Barça star continues to build her legacy as one of the greatest players in the history of women’s football. Notably, last season she became the top scorer for Barça’s women’s team and the third highest in the club’s history, behind only César and Leo Messi. While the Argentine remains an insurmountable legend, the Catalan could potentially surpass the historic César Rodríguez. Only 18 goals separate them.
