Franck Kessie is a new FC Barcelona player. Finally, Kessie can join Xavi’s trainings. Moreover, we can already try to think about the plans that our coach has for the midfielder from Ivory Coast.
When he arrived, Frack Kessie said that his idol is former Barcelona and Xavi’s teammate, Yaya Toure. But Kessie is a different player, that will offer different things to the team. I would say that he’s a lot more like Seydou Keita, as he’s not a classical Defensive Midfielder, like Yaya was while he played for Barcelona. And by the way, In Manchester City Yaya played in more attacking role, and did great.
Not the ‘Classic’ Barcelona midfielder
Franck Kessie is a great player. According to Transfermarkt.com, Kessie has a market value of 45m Euros. So getting him for free is a low-risk deal. Even if he won’t play well, the club could sell him and make a profit.
Kessie can play with both legs, and he offers power for in the middle of the pitch. He can be that midfielder that would help the club avoiding transition attacks against oponents that specialise in that.
However, If you expect him to be a ‘Busquets’ type of midfielder that would stay deep and pass the ball from one side to another – He will dissapoint you.
But if Xavi’s plans for Kessie are to use him in his best qualities, he can offer a fresh alternative in the midfielder.
Kessie’s Strengths
Although he’s not a ‘Busquets’ type of midfielder, Kessie offers things that Busi would wish to offer. Kessie is the type of tireless midfielder that you can see in every place in the field.
Also, Kessie is a player that can always run inside the box and score many goals. And we all know that Xavi really loves midfielders that can run into the box. Moreover, Kessie a great shot from long range, and that would work well against deep lines of defense.
Bottom line
Kessie is a very nice signing for Xavi’s Barca. If Xavi will use him right, he can be a ‘Bingo’ type of transfer, and a real bargain. However, he can also fail to find his place with so many great midfielders. But then, the club can always sell him, as other teams rate him highly.
Good luck in Barcelona, Franck!
