Héctor Fort is gaining importance again in a key FC Barcelona file. Hansi Flick has reportedly told him he counts on him for preseason. It is not a final decision, but it is a very valuable chance.
The full-back returns to the picture after a demanding and uncertain period. Flick wants to watch him closely before deciding his definitive future. Inside Barça, preseason is seen as a moment that can change everything.
A chance arriving at the right moment
Fort knows he does not start as the favourite in the squad. But he also knows that an important door is now open. Barça need reliable full-backs capable of competing through a very long season.
The La Masia player must convince Flick from the first training session. His versatility, personality and blaugrana education are important arguments in his favour. However, the demand will be huge in a position with serious competition.
The German coach especially values players who learn fast and compete bravely. Fort already knows the pressure of training with the first team. Now he must prove he can stay as a real season-long alternative.
Koundé remains the big reference
The first obstacle for Fort has a clear name: Jules Koundé. The French defender has become very reliable at right-back for Barça. His physical level, defensive focus and experience keep him ahead for now.
Even so, Barça know the season will be long and demanding. Koundé cannot play every minute if Flick wants maximum intensity. In that context, Fort appears as an interesting option for rotation.
The club must also decide whether to sign or trust La Masia. Barça’s financial situation forces every position to be analysed very carefully. If Fort responds well, Deco could avoid a complicated market operation.
Xavi Espart also pushes from the academy
The competition is not only about Koundé, because Xavi Espart is emerging strongly. The young academy player already debuted this season and left positive feelings. Flick was reportedly satisfied with his personality, reading and adaptation.
Espart represents another La Masia profile capable of gaining preseason space. His development has been quick, and Barça see significant potential there. For Fort, that turns the summer into a direct internal battle.
Barça do not want to give minutes away because of name or age. Flick will reward performance, confidence and response in demanding situations. That means Fort must convince through facts, not only potential.
Barça will decide after watching him
The club’s initial position seems clear: observe, evaluate and avoid rushing. A loan could still appear if there is not enough squad space. But right now, Flick wants his own information before deciding.
For Fort, the opportunity arrives at a decisive moment in his career. He has talent, education and a real chance to change perceptions. He also knows a poor preseason could push him towards another exit.
The summer will decide whether Fort stays, leaves on loan or loses ground. Flick has opened a door, but he has not guaranteed him a place. The twist is clear: Fort must now prove Barça already have the answer at home.
Caution note: At the time of writing, Héctor Fort’s final Barça role has not been officially confirmed.
