Roony Bardghji is once again at the centre of FC Barcelona’s summer market. The Swedish winger wants to play more and several English clubs are already following his situation closely. Among them, Aston Villa have emerged strongly, with Unai Emery personally pushing the move.
The Basque coach wants to strengthen his attack to compete properly next season. His team will play in the Champions League and needs greater squad depth in every position. In that context, Bardghji fits as a young, vertical player with significant room for growth.
Barça had no intention of giving away one of their most recent future bets. However, his lack of minutes and the pressure of the market have changed the situation. The club are now studying an exit, although they still need to decide between a loan and a permanent sale.
Emery pushes for Roony
Unai Emery believes Bardghji could adapt very well to Aston Villa’s style. The Swede has dribbling ability, a strong left foot, vision and the capacity to move as an attacking midfielder. He can also start from the right and attack inside channels naturally.
Aston Villa are looking for players capable of adding energy and talent without disrupting the balance. Roony would be an important rotation option for a season with a very demanding European calendar. The chance to play Champions League football could be a huge card to convince the player.
The player, for his part, wants a project where he can enjoy continuity and real responsibility. In Barcelona, he knows Lamine Yamal is untouchable and that competition will continue to grow. The arrival of Anthony Gordon also makes the attacking minutes even harder to share.
Barça listen to offers
Bardghji’s situation does not mean Barça have lost confidence in him. The club still value his potential and believe he can grow significantly. But keeping him without minutes could also slow down a development that needs important matches.
Barça may prefer a permanent sale if the offer reaches truly interesting figures. In England, there is talk of valuations between €20 million and €25 million. That amount would help Deco create margin for priority operations in the market.
Even so, the player’s priority would be to leave on loan and return better prepared to Camp Nou. Bardghji has not given up on his dream of succeeding in blaugrana. That is why a loan with minutes and European context could be the most logical formula.
The Premier League moves strongly
Aston Villa are not the only English club closely following the Swede’s situation. Sunderland, Everton, Brighton, Brentford and Leeds United have also been linked with the player. The Premier League sees a clear opportunity in a young talent with limited space in Barcelona.
The difference could lie in the sporting project offered by each interested club. For Roony, playing Champions League football under Emery would be more attractive than many alternatives. Aston Villa could also give him a huge platform without asking him to carry the entire team.
Barça will need to be very careful not to lose control of a player with major potential. If they accept a sale, they will try to include a buy-back clause or a future sell-on percentage. If they choose a loan, they will demand a destination where he can have real prominence from the start.
A key decision for Deco
Deco needs to organise many files before closing Flick’s final squad. Bardghji is one of those difficult decisions between present finances and future sporting value. Selling could help now, but letting him go too early would also carry a major risk.
The player arrived at Barça as a market opportunity after shining at Copenhagen. His first season did not allow him to establish himself, but he showed interesting flashes when given space. Now he needs a full campaign to prove whether he can sustain that talent.
Aston Villa want to take advantage of that situation and Emery has reportedly marked his name in red. Barça are listening, Roony wants minutes and the Premier League are pushing strongly from several fronts. And that is the twist: Bardghji wants to leave, but he still dreams of returning to Barça.
