Roony Bardghji finds himself in a delicate situation at FC Barcelona once again. Sunderland, Everton and Aston Villa have all made enquiries about the Swedish winger. The three Premier League clubs see an opportunity to sign one of the most promising young talents currently at Barça.
The Catalan club do not consider him a mandatory departure, but they are seriously evaluating his future this summer. A lack of playing time under Hansi Flick has completely changed the picture for the player. Roony wants regular football and is determined to avoid another season with limited opportunities.
The arrival of Anthony Gordon has only made his path to minutes even more complicated. With Lamine Yamal established as the undisputed first-choice option on the right wing, Bardghji faces an uphill battle for playing time. For that reason, his representatives have already started exploring solutions ahead of the transfer window.
Premier League clubs see an opportunity
Interest from England is far from a casual rumour. According to TEAMtalk, several Premier League sides have already asked about both a loan deal and a permanent transfer. Sunderland, Everton, Aston Villa, Brighton, Brentford and Leeds are all monitoring the situation closely.
Sunderland would reportedly be willing to offer Bardghji a significant role from day one. The club are searching for creativity, directness and a winger capable of making an impact in open matches. That promise of regular football could be extremely appealing for a player at this stage of his development.
Everton and Aston Villa also view the Swede as a valuable opportunity because of his age and potential upside. Bardghji possesses technical quality, a dangerous left foot and the ability to operate effectively from the right flank. In the fast-paced environment of English football, his profile could be particularly attractive.
Barça would rather sell
The main disagreement concerns the formula for his departure. According to TEAMtalk, Barça are open to a permanent transfer this summer. Bardghji, however, would reportedly prefer a loan move that allows him to return stronger in the future.
The club’s position is understandable given its current financial situation and the need to generate revenue. Deco must create salary space, free squad spots and generate margin for other important operations. Selling a young player can be difficult, but it may also help balance the books.
Even so, Barça are unlikely to approve any deal without maintaining some level of future control. A buy-back clause or a percentage of a future sale would make sense considering Bardghji’s potential. The club knows that letting him leave permanently without protection could become a costly mistake if he explodes in the Premier League.
Flick cannot guarantee opportunities
Bardghji arrived at Barça as a long-term project after joining from FC Copenhagen. The club officially completed his signing in 2025 and handed him a contract until 2029. At the time, he was presented as a technically gifted right winger with enormous potential.
The problem is that his first season did not establish him as a regular member of the rotation. TEAMtalk reports that he accumulated only 633 minutes in La Liga under Flick. That number helps explain why he is now looking for a destination where he can play much more frequently.
Internal competition remains extremely demanding for a player still developing at the highest level. Lamine dominates the present, while Gordon adds even more depth to the attacking department. Roony needs consistent minutes, not occasional appearances from the bench.
A decision full of risk
Barça must now decide whether to prioritise protecting his future or turning his departure into a useful sale. Keeping him without significant playing time could slow his development and reduce his market value. Selling him too soon, however, could prove to be a major mistake if he thrives in England.
The final fee will also play an important role in shaping negotiations over the coming weeks. Fichajes.net has suggested a possible valuation of around €10 million, while Transfermarkt currently values the player closer to €15 million.
The market still has to determine which solution works best for all parties involved. Roony wants to play, Premier League clubs are pushing, and Barça need flexibility to continue strengthening the squad. And that is the twist: three English clubs want him, but Bardghji’s priority remains leaving only to return stronger one day.
Caution note: This article is based on reports from TEAMtalk, Fichajes.net, Transfermarkt and ongoing transfer speculation. At the time of writing, no agreement has been reached between FC Barcelona, Roony Bardghji or any of the clubs mentioned.
