Barcelona have made Alessandro Bastoni one of their main defensive targets for the summer, but any move will depend on creating room in the squad and on the wage bill first. The club admire the Inter defender’s profile, yet they know a deal of this size cannot be completed without exits.
Bastoni has become a priority
Barcelona are already shaping part of their summer planning around the idea of signing Bastoni. Inside the club, he is seen as a defender who would instantly raise the level of the back line. His left foot, composure in possession and experience at the highest level make him an especially attractive option for the current project.
The problem is the price. Inter are not expected to make things easy, and the Italian side would only consider letting him leave for a major fee. That would put the operation in a range that Barcelona cannot attack freely without first making financial adjustments.
For that reason, the sporting department understands that the first step is not buying, but selling. Before Bastoni can arrive, space has to be opened in both the squad structure and the salary bill.

Christensen is one of the names under pressure
One of the clearest cases is Andreas Christensen. The Danish centre-back remains a valuable player, but his situation could become one of the keys to any defensive reshuffle this summer. If there is no agreement over a reduced renewal package, his continuity may become much less likely.
Barcelona are still looking for ways to improve their financial balance, and Christensen’s case fits that wider strategy. An exit would not only lower salary commitments, but could also help create the conditions needed for a major incoming transfer.
That is why his future is being watched so closely. In sporting terms, the club could justify the move. In economic terms, it may be even more important.
Gerard Martín could also feel the impact
Another player whose future could be affected indirectly is Gerard Martín. The youngster has made a positive impression, but a signing like Bastoni would inevitably change the defensive landscape.
If Barcelona add another top-level defender, minutes become harder to distribute. That kind of arrival would force the coaching staff and the club to rethink how many defenders they want to keep and who is likely to have a real role.
This does not automatically mean Gerard Martín would leave, but it does place him in a more uncertain scenario. A domino effect could follow if the squad becomes overcrowded in that area.

Barcelona are studying ways to lower the cost
Barcelona are also believed to be exploring formulas that would make the deal more manageable. One possibility would be to include players in the negotiations in order to reduce the transfer fee and make the operation less aggressive financially.
Even so, the priority remains clear. The club do not want to push ahead recklessly before resolving departures. That part of the plan comes first, and only after that would the Bastoni move become realistic.
Inside the club, the thinking is straightforward: if Bastoni is the chosen piece, someone else will have to make room for him.
Caution: This information should be treated carefully, as the source may not be fully reliable. At this stage, it could be closer to market speculation than a fully solid or confirmed operation.
