The future of Ansu Fati is once again shaking the Barça environment and, despite recent weeks pointing strongly toward Monaco, the operation is still not closed. Mundo Deportivo reported today that the agreement with the French club is advanced, but that the player has not yet finalized his continuity and is still waiting for a definitive decision from Barcelona.
That detail changes the reading of his summer quite a bit. One thing is for the most advanced scenario to be staying in France, and another very different thing is for the case to be fully resolved. In fact, AS already explained weeks ago that, although the player’s family sees continuing at Monaco positively, the final decision had not yet been made.
A return to Camp Nou is not ruled out
The main reason the situation remains alive comes down to one specific detail: Ansu Fati still has a contract with Barça until 2028 and the Catalan club keeps full control over his future. According to the information published today by Mundo Deportivo, the forward still believes he can have a place in Hansi Flick’s squad.
That explains why nobody inside the Barça environment dares to completely close his chapter at Camp Nou. The attacker does not consider his story with the club finished and still sees a chance to fight for an opportunity if the offensive situation changes in the coming weeks. That perception keeps a door open which, not long ago, looked much further away.
Monaco push, but the agreement is still unfinished
At the same time, there are also clear signs that Monaco want to keep him. AS reported last week that the Principality club decided to activate the €11 million purchase option, although the deal still needs to be fully finalized, especially regarding salary renegotiation. The same report explained that the player is willing to lower his wages to help complete the operation.
That point is important because it shows that staying in France is well advanced, but not formally completed. And while nothing is signed, Barça still have room to reassess the situation within their attacking plans.
Flick could still be decisive
Another important figure in this story is Hansi Flick himself. There has been no public and definitive decision from the German coach regarding the forward’s future so far, while the structure of Barça’s attack is still open and several files in that area remain unresolved.
In that context, any change in attacking roles or possible departures up front could alter Ansu’s situation once again. That idea is a reasonable inference based on the fact that his continuity at Monaco remains unsigned and on the player’s own belief that he can still earn a place in the squad.
The conclusion right now seems fairly clear. Ansu Fati has not yet signed his continuity with Monaco, the French club still want him, and Barça continue to control the situation. A return to Camp Nou does not look like the most likely outcome today, but with the deal still unfinished, it can no longer be completely ruled out.
