Barcelona continue to look at La Masia as a real source of solutions for the present and immediate future. In recent weeks, Tommy, Jofre, Xavi Espart and Álvaro Cortés have worked regularly with the first team. The sensations they have left in training have been very positive inside the club.
This is not just a punctual presence to complete sessions or cover absences. The four have impressed because of their development, attitude and the mentality with which they compete. That has caught the attention of a Hansi Flick who continues to follow their evolution closely.
Inside the coaching staff, there is a very good assessment of the step they have taken recently. The German coach is happy with them and wants to keep supervising them closely over the next few months. That is why their situation is already generating debate in summer planning.
Flick values them highly
The most important point is how the Barça coach currently sees them. Flick does not only approve of their progression, but has made clear that he values all four highly. That means he does not see them as simple promises, but as players to follow very carefully.
Their growth in training has reinforced that feeling inside the first team. They have responded well to the rhythm, demands and a much tougher context than usual. That always matters when a coach decides which players he wants to keep under close observation.
Inside Barça, these signs are considered important for next season. They do not guarantee a fixed place in the squad, but they open the door to more serious monitoring. In the case of these four names, that door now looks completely open.
A loan remains on the table
Even so, the club are also considering a possibility that could be key to their immediate growth. A loan remains a real option for Tommy, Xavi, Jofre and Álvaro Cortés this summer. The idea would be for them to gain minutes, experience and continuity.
That plan would not clash with Flick’s good assessment of them. Quite the opposite, it would respond to a strategy designed to protect their medium-term development. The coach is happy to keep them close, but also understands that playing can accelerate their jump.
That balance is now driving much of the internal debate at the Ciutat Esportiva. The club want to avoid blocking talents like these without minutes in a very demanding squad. But they also do not want to lose control of players who have shown such promising signs.
La Masia pushes again
The conclusion inside Barça seems quite clear with this new generation on the table. Tommy, Jofre, Xavi Espart and Álvaro Cortés have convinced Flick through level and mentality. Now the club must decide whether their next step is staying close to the first team or growing elsewhere on loan.
What does seem clear is that the German coach is not taking his eyes off them. He is happy with them, values them highly and wants to keep controlling their progression closely. In the current Barça, that is already a very important sign for their future.
