Barça have already started to move important names aside in their planning for the next summer window. After the latest sporting meetings with Hansi Flick, one idea is becoming very clear inside the club. The coach wants players with more leadership, more competitive experience, and much greater intensity without the ball.
That shift in approach is already changing the internal order of priorities. It does not mean those players are no longer liked or have been fully ruled out forever. But right now, several names who were followed for months are no longer considered real priorities.
Bernardo is admired, but his place is already covered
One of the clearest cases is Bernardo Silva, who will be available at the end of the season. At Barça, they know perfectly well what he offers in terms of talent, tactical intelligence, and ability to compete at the highest level. However, the club believes his role is already well covered and that there are much more urgent needs elsewhere.
The midfield already includes Pedri, Gavi, Fermín, Dani Olmo and Frenkie de Jong, among others. Because of that, strengthening that area is not seen as a major priority for either Flick or Deco. Bernardo may excite people because of his quality, but Barça would rather invest in positions that need reinforcement much more urgently.
The same logic also affects Pedro Neto, who is not among the leading attacking targets either. The Portuguese winger is appreciated for his pace, dribbling, and one-against-one threat. Still, the club believes there are other profiles better suited to what Flick wants to build.
Leão raises doubts and Conceição cools off
In the case of Rafael Leão, the scouting has been much more direct and consistent. Barça have watched him closely and fully recognize his top-level attacking quality. But inside the club, one important weakness continues to create real doubts.
His lack of defensive intensity and his irregular pressing do not fully fit Flick’s model. The German coach wants wingers who stay committed without the ball, attack every recovery action, and maintain a high level of effort throughout matches. That is exactly where Leão loses ground compared to other names that fit the new plan better.
With Eduardo Conceição, the internal message is even colder. Inside the club, they insist there is nothing concrete in that operation right now. Some even believe Barça’s name is being used simply to inflate the player’s market value.
Víctor Muñoz is liked, but not seen as a top priority
There has also been monitoring of Víctor Muñoz, but he is not viewed as an immediate signing either. Inside the club, the feeling is that the priority must be players with greater top-level experience. That idea connects directly with Flick’s recent reflections about needing more leaders in the squad.
After the Champions League blow, Barça have drawn some very clear conclusions. The team needs more authority, more character, and more players capable of handling huge European nights. That is why several younger or less complete attacking profiles are now losing weight internally.
Flick has already changed the market plan
The conclusion in the offices is already quite clear and it changes the shape of Barça’s summer. The club will continue to follow talent, of course, but it no longer wants to sign players only because of their name, their price, or their attacking flair. Flick has marked the path: more leaders, more intensity, and fewer bets that do not fully match the model.
