Jules Koundé could become one of the biggest files of Barça’s summer. According to Carlos Monfort in SPORT, FC Barcelona are willing to listen to offers for the Frenchman. He is not on the discard list, but a major proposal could open the door.
The movement represents a striking twist, because Koundé renewed only months ago with a salary improvement. Barça officially announced his extension until June 30, 2030. That renewal came after interest from several important clubs during the previous market.
However, this season has reportedly not fully met the club’s internal expectations. The Frenchman is still valued, but his continuity no longer looks absolutely guaranteed. Deco has actually been working for months on right-back alternatives in case an offer arrives.
Deco is already looking at possible replacements
Barça cannot improvise Koundé’s departure if a major proposal finally arrives. The Frenchman has been a regular starter and occupies a very sensitive position in the team. That is why Deco has been reviewing the right-back market for some time.
The idea is not to sell for the sake of selling, but to be prepared if the market pushes. Koundé has status in Europe, a long contract and very high value for Premier League clubs. A major sale would free salary space and generate margin for other priority operations.

Koundé arrived at Barça as a centre-back, but eventually consolidated himself as the starting right-back. That adaptation gave the team stability during several important seasons. However, it has also forced the club to constantly rethink the ideal profile for that flank.
Hansi Flick needs full-backs capable of defending large spaces and offering clean build-up play. Koundé brings defensive discipline, physical power and experience, but not always constant attacking depth. That is why the sporting department are studying alternatives with different characteristics to balance the squad.
Several names have been linked with Barça for that position in recent months. Denzel Dumfries was mentioned as an opportunity if the Frenchman’s exit opened up. His clause, close to €25 million, makes him an attractive and much cheaper option.
A sale that would help the market
Barça are facing a summer with many open operations and important economic needs. The club want to strengthen the attack, organise exits and maintain Financial Fair Play balance. In that context, a big sale involving Koundé would have a very powerful financial reading.
However, his departure would also carry an obvious sporting cost for the blaugrana squad. Koundé has offered consistency, competitiveness and experience in high-pressure matches. Losing him would force the club to get the replacement absolutely right to avoid weakening a key area.
