Atlético Madrid are once again looking towards La Masia to strengthen their midfield. The most open route right now is Marc Casadó, whose name has returned strongly to the red-and-white radar. Marc Bernal is also liked, but his case is much more complicated for any suitor.
The difference between both situations makes sense. Casadó has lost prominence this season and reports have already suggested he is willing to listen to offers in search of more continuity. Cadena SER reported in April that the midfielder wants more minutes and sees them as difficult to get in the current Barça squad.
With Bernal, the picture is very different. Barça officially extended his contract until 2029 and continue to treat him as a strategic bet for the present and future. In 2024, the club also fixed his release clause at €500 million, a clear sign of the institutional protection around the midfielder.
Casadó is the more realistic route
Atlético’s interest in Marc Casadó is no longer interpreted as an isolated rumour. Barca Universal, citing SPORT, claimed the Madrid club have reactivated their interest in the Barça academy player. Get Spanish Football News also confirmed that the midfielder’s name is moving strongly again inside the Metropolitano offices.
Barça, for their part, maintain a strong contractual position. Casadó officially renewed in 2024 until June 30, 2028, so any negotiation would start from a position of control for the Catalan club. But having contractual strength is one thing, and ignoring a market that is starting to push hard is another.
The sporting context also explains why this operation is heating up. Get Spanish Football News even described Casadó as the Barça player “most likely” to leave this summer because of his reduced role in the rotation. AS also reported that even his preseason will begin with a very open scenario regarding his continuity.
Bernal is liked, but Barça protect him
With Marc Bernal, Atlético face a much higher wall. Football España reported in April that the Madrid club had shown real interest in the midfielder and that meetings with his camp had even taken place. AS also reported a meeting between representatives linked to Atlético and the player’s agent, proving that the monitoring exists.
But that is where the accessible part of the case ends. Barça have not only renewed Bernal until 2029, but continue to consider him a central piece of their project. His official profile presents him as a pivot with strong tactical awareness and defensive capacity.
In May, the club also described him as one of the great internal “signings” for the new season after his recovery. That makes any Atlético attempt almost impossible in the short term. The interest may exist, but Barça’s willingness to negotiate appears practically non-existent right now.
Deco must decide what matters most
The final reading inside Camp Nou seems quite clear. Marc Casadó does represent an open file, painful but logical in a summer where Barça need to organise the squad, generate margin and make difficult decisions. In that context, an important Atlético offer would force Deco to study the case seriously.
With Bernal, however, the story is very different. Atlético can admire him, follow him and even move around his camp, but Barça have protected him as one of the names meant to define the future of their midfield. If Simeone dreams of both gems, today only one looks truly reachable.
Caution note: this situation is based on reports from Cadena SER, SPORT, Barca Universal, Get Spanish Football News, Football España and AS, not an official negotiation completed between Barcelona and Atlético Madrid.
