Barcelona are once again looking nervously toward the treatment room at a decisive stage of the season, and this time the name causing the biggest concern is Raphinha. The Brazilian winger was forced off at half-time during Brazil’s friendly against France after suffering discomfort in his right thigh / hamstring area, and the first feeling around the case is one of real worry rather than calm. Brazil’s staff confirmed he had a muscular problem and that medical tests were due on Friday, 27 March to determine the exact extent of the injury.
What is making the situation even more delicate is that this is the same right hamstring that had already caused him serious trouble earlier in the season. Several reports this morning say Barça fear a recurrence in an area that had already sidelined him for around two months and led to previous setbacks, which is why the club are treating the case with particular caution. For now, though, there is still no official confirmation of a tear.
Everything now depends on the medical tests
For the moment, Barcelona are waiting for the decisive examinations before making any final judgement. The tests will determine whether this is a muscular tear, a smaller strain, or something less severe. Until those results arrive, the club remain in a state of tension rather than certainty.
Inside the club, the fear is obvious because a confirmed tear could keep him out for several weeks. Reports today say that, in the worst-case scenario, he could be ruled out for upcoming key matches, including the Champions League quarter-final against Atlético de Madrid and possibly even the next Clásico. More cautious coverage says that, if it turns out to be only a minor strain or microrupture, the absence could be shorter, but even then his availability for Barça’s immediate return after the break looks doubtful.
The player himself is also waiting anxiously. Raphinha had been in strong form before this scare, and the timing could hardly be worse for Barça, who are entering the most demanding stretch of the campaign. Recent reporting highlights that he had just come off a productive run and remains one of the most important attacking pieces in Flick’s system.
A possible major blow for Barça
If the worst fears are confirmed, Barcelona would lose one of their most decisive attacking players at exactly the wrong moment. Raphinha’s dribbling, goal threat and work rate without the ball make him a very difficult profile to replace, especially when the team are preparing for huge matches in both La Liga and Europe. That part is an inference from his role and the concern reflected in today’s coverage.
The coaching staff are already being forced to think about alternatives in case the injury is confirmed. The most likely consequence would be greater responsibility for players like Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres in the wide attacking roles, but even then the impact of losing Raphinha would be hard to soften completely. That is an inference based on squad roles rather than a confirmed club statement.
So that is where the situation stands. Barcelona are still waiting, but the concern is real. There is not yet an official diagnosis confirming a muscle tear, but the early signs are serious enough for the club to fear exactly that. And right now, inside the Barça camp, the feeling is simple: Raphinha’s case could become a major problem if the tests confirm the worst.
