Pablo Torre Joins Girona on Loan: A Path to Redemption

Pablo Torre, 20, is set to embark on a loan spell at Girona FC until June 30, 2024. Girona reached an agreement with FC Barcelona, as confirmed by both clubs. The talented Cantabrian midfielder joined Barcelona last summer. But he struggled for playing time, prompting the move to Girona in search of regular minutes. This loan stint presents an opportunity for Torre to take a step forward and become a key contributor in Míchel’s tactical setup.

Pablo Torre arrived at Barcelona in the summer of 2022 after an impressive season with Racing de Santander. Barcelona had hoped to replicate the success of the “Pedri formula” with Torre. But the crowded midfield has limited his opportunities. During the current season, Torre has made 13 appearances for the first team, scoring a goal in the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen and providing an assist.

In addition to these 13 matches, Torre also featured in three more games for Barcelona B when competitions were halted due to the Qatar World Cup. Overall, he has accumulated nearly 600 minutes of playing time this season. Therefore, the technical staff has decided that Torre’s development would be best served by gaining experience outside of Barcelona.

A year after his debut

Interestingly, Torre made his debut for Barcelona just over a year ago in a preseason match against Olot (1-1). At that time, several players who would later depart, such as Abde, Nico, Dest, and Aubameyang, were also in the squad. Aubameyang even scored the only goal for the Blaugrana. Now, Torre might have the chance to make another debut in Olot, this time wearing the “blanc-i-vermella” (white and red) jersey. Girona is currently in the Garrotxa region preparing for the start of the league season, and on Wednesday, they will face Pedro Dólera’s side in their first match. This encounter could mark a significant moment for Torre as he begins his loan spell at Girona.
