Marc Casadó has once again become one of the hottest names in Barcelona’s transfer plans this summer. According to Matteo Moretto, AS Monaco are pushing hard to sign the Barça midfielder. The move comes at a time when Deco needs departures to free up space and unlock new signings.
Monaco’s interest is not arriving in isolation, as the French club have already completed the signing of Ansu Fati. That deal has strengthened the relationship between the two clubs in recent weeks. Now, the Ligue 1 side are looking towards Barcelona’s midfield as well.
Casadó still has a long-term contract with Barça, but his sporting situation is far from straightforward. The club officially tied him down until June 2028. Even so, the fierce competition in midfield could eventually push him to consider offers.
Monaco see an opportunity
Monaco are searching for a young, energetic midfielder capable of becoming a key part of their new project. Casadó fits the profile because of his work rate, tactical discipline, intensity and development within one of Europe’s most demanding academies. His style could also adapt well to the physical demands of French football.
Get French Football News previously reported that Casadó’s name had already been discussed during recent conversations. According to those reports, his representatives mentioned him to Monaco while negotiating other operations. Now, Moretto adds that the French side are actively pushing to complete the deal.
Barcelona do not view Casadó as a player they must sell, but they do recognise the financial advantages of a potential transfer. As a homegrown player, any fee received would represent a highly favourable accounting gain. That reality makes the operation increasingly attractive.
Competition is closing the door
Casadó’s biggest challenge is the growing competition inside Barcelona’s midfield. Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Fermín López and Marc Bernal all reduce his chances of securing a leading role. In addition, Barça continue to monitor opportunities such as Bernardo Silva, which would make the battle for minutes even tougher.
The midfielder has always shown a strong emotional connection to Barcelona. His priority has consistently been to succeed at the club rather than leave at the first obstacle. However, at 22 years old, he also needs regular football to continue developing his career.
Hansi Flick values Casadó’s intensity and ability to compete in high-tempo matches. Even so, the German coach cannot guarantee him a major role if the squad remains fully available. That honesty could push the player to reconsider his future during the summer.
Deco needs sales
The operation also makes perfect sense from a financial perspective. Barcelona need to create room for new signings, registrations and important contract renewals. Selling Casadó would generate income without sacrificing one of the team’s undisputed stars.
In recent weeks, clubs such as Crystal Palace and Brentford have also been linked with the midfielder. There have even been reports of interest from Saudi Arabia and other European sides. Monaco’s pressure now adds another serious option to the list.
The French club can offer regular minutes, development opportunities and a less crowded environment than Barcelona. There is also an interesting subplot: Casadó could reunite with Ansu Fati in Monaco. Two players closely linked to Barça could begin a new chapter together away from Camp Nou.
A delicate decision
Barcelona must now decide whether to protect Casadó as part of the project or transform his departure into a useful sale. Keeping him would make sense because of his identity, commitment and squad depth value. Selling him, meanwhile, would provide financial relief in a summer full of expensive operations.
Monaco are not the only club interested, but they are among the most active right now. If they submit a significant proposal, Deco will need to evaluate the fee, structure and the player’s own wishes. The final decision will depend on whether Casadó believes Monaco can offer the prominence he currently lacks.
The market still has a long way to go, but the file is now clearly open. Barcelona are listening, Monaco are pushing and Casadó must choose between waiting or playing. And that is the twist: Monaco could soon reunite Ansu Fati and Marc Casadó away from Barça.
