The market is starting to heat up, and Manchester United have now placed their focus on Barcelona. The Premier League side are one of the clubs credited with asking about Alejandro Balde, a full-back who continues to attract strong attention because of his age, profile and long-term ceiling. Other recent reports have also linked Manchester City and Aston Villa with interest in the Barça defender.
That attention is easy to understand. Balde is still only 21, he combines pace with attacking drive, and he remains one of the most valuable young left-backs developed at the club in recent years. Barcelona themselves protected him in September 2023 with a contract until 30 June 2028 and a €1 billion release clause, which says a lot about how highly the club rate him.
Barça close the door
Inside the club, the message is clear. Barcelona do not want to sell Alejandro Balde this summer. His profile is seen as difficult to replace, and the club still view him as one of the important young pieces of the sporting project.
That does not mean there is no market noise around him. Some recent reports suggest Barça would at least listen to offers in certain scenarios, especially if major bids arrived, but that is very different from actively wanting to move him on. The strongest hard fact remains his long contract and the protection Barça already built into it.
The player’s decision makes the picture even clearer
Beyond Manchester United’s interest, the player’s own position also matters a lot. Balde has publicly spoken in the past about seeing himself at Barça for many more years, and there is no strong verified indication that he is pushing for a move away now. That reinforces Barcelona’s position in any possible negotiation.
Without the player’s willingness, any operation loses strength from the beginning. That is why, despite the Premier League interest, the overall picture has not really changed.
A lot of noise, but the same ending for now
Balde’s name will continue to appear in the market over the coming months because of his level and his projection. That part feels inevitable. Manchester United are interested, the Premier League is watching, and the attention is real.
But the response, for now, remains the same. Barça do not want to sell, and Balde does not look ready to leave. That is the key to the whole story: United may want him, but Balde still looks set to stay at Barcelona.
