Alejandro Balde has become one of the most closely watched full-backs in Europe, and Manchester City are among the clubs keeping a close eye on him. Reports say Manchester United and Aston Villa have also asked about his situation, which shows just how highly rated he is outside Spain.
That interest is easy to understand. Balde combines speed, attacking power and huge room for growth, which makes him one of the most attractive left-backs of his generation. At just 21 years old, he is already an established first-team player at Barcelona and still seen as a footballer with major upside ahead of him. Barça’s own official channels have highlighted both his youth and his importance to the squad.
Barça do not want to sell him
Inside Barcelona, there is no real doubt about Balde’s future. The club see him as a key part of the sporting project and have already shown that with actions, not just words. In September 2023, Barça renewed his contract until 30 June 2028 and set his buyout clause at €1 billion, a very clear sign of how strongly they wanted to protect him.
That contract alone says a lot. Barcelona do not treat Balde like a player they are preparing to move on from. On the contrary, he is viewed as one of the young pillars of the team, a player whose profile is very difficult to replace in the current market.
The player’s position also looks very clear
The other major factor is the player himself. Balde has long made it clear that his priority is to stay at Barcelona. When he signed his renewal, he described it as living his dream, and more recently he said he hoped his time with the Barça first team would continue.
That makes the whole situation much more difficult for any Premier League club. Interest may be real, and the admiration may be strong, but without the player’s desire to leave, a transfer becomes very hard to build from the start. In Balde’s case, there is no verified public sign that he wants a change of scene. The clearest evidence available points in the opposite direction.
There may be market noise, but the picture is stable
So the overall situation is fairly simple. Premier League clubs may be watching Balde closely, and Manchester City’s name fits naturally into that level of interest. But Barça do not want to sell, and Balde does not appear to want to leave. Add in a long contract and a massive release clause, and the road to any deal looks extremely difficult.
That is why, for now, the market noise does not change the core story. Manchester City may be very interested in Alejandro Balde, but his future still points firmly toward Barça.
