The future of Robert Lewandowski has once again become a topic of discussion at FC Barcelona. Despite his age and the fact that he is no longer considered an undisputed starter in every match, club president Joan Laporta remains convinced that the Polish striker is still an important figure for the team.
Laporta explained the reasons behind the club’s desire to extend Lewandowski’s contract during an interview with the radio program “Què t’hi jugues” on Cadena SER.
During the conversation, the president highlighted both the striker’s performances on the pitch and the commitment he showed toward the project from the moment he arrived.
Lewandowski joined Barcelona at a very delicate moment in the club’s recent history. Laporta recalled the context surrounding his move from Bayern Munich, a transfer that was made possible in part thanks to the strong relationship between the president and the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi.
The Polish forward quickly became a central figure in the team’s sporting recovery.
In his first season with Barcelona, Lewandowski won the Pichichi Trophy and helped the club secure the La Liga title, establishing himself as one of the leaders in the dressing room.
Laporta praises his talent and professionalism
During the interview, Laporta was very clear about the value the striker still brings to the squad.
“He is a player with great talent and when he comes on, he scores,” the president explained while discussing Lewandowski’s impact.
Although his role within the team has evolved over the seasons, Barcelona believes that his experience remains extremely valuable inside the dressing room.
His commitment to Barça matters
Laporta also highlighted the commitment Lewandowski showed when he decided to join Barcelona.
At the time, the striker pushed hard to leave Bayern Munich despite the German club’s reluctance to let him go.
According to the Barça president, that decision demonstrated the player’s genuine desire to wear the Barcelona shirt.
Fully adapted to Barcelona
Another factor Laporta emphasized was the striker’s adaptation to life in the city.
The president explained that Lewandowski is completely integrated both within the club and in Barcelona itself, something that plays a role in the club’s intention to extend his contract.
“He is fully adapted to Barcelona, the city, and his whole environment is comfortable here,” Laporta said.
Despite his commitment to Barcelona, the Polish striker continues to attract strong interest in the international market.
Laporta revealed that Lewandowski has received very significant offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia, although the player is not currently considering leaving the club.
According to the president, Lewandowski’s intention for now is to continue his career at Camp Nou.
