Robert Lewandowski remains firmly in FC Barcelona’s plans, although no longer in exactly the same role as before. The club are preparing to offer the Polish striker one more year on reduced terms, in a formula designed to keep his experience inside the dressing room while Barça prepare for the arrival of the next major centre-forward in the project.
Barcelona’s idea is not to break with Lewandowski immediately. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Inside the club, the feeling is that he can still offer real competitive value, but from a more limited role, closer to that of an experienced veteran who supports and pushes the new striker rather than carrying the attack on his own every week.
That approach fits the roadmap Barça are drawing up for the summer. The sporting department want to sign a new top-level number nine, but at the same time they also want to keep a figure with hierarchy, experience and goals inside the squad. Within the club, there is a belief that Lewandowski could help ease that transition and become an important part of the handover.
But the renewal would not come under the current conditions. Barça’s plan is to offer continuity, yes, but with a clear salary reduction, in line with the player’s age, his expected secondary role and the club’s ongoing need to keep the wage bill under control.

Barça want him to stay, but not in the same way as before
The key to the blaugrana plan is to completely redefine Lewandowski’s place in the squad. Barcelona do not want his presence to block the arrival of the next striker, but they also do not want to lose such an important reference point in the dressing room overnight. That is why the proposal is built around two ideas at once: contract continuity and reduced sporting and financial weight.
There is also a personal factor that gives Barça some optimism. The current belief around the club is that family stability matters a great deal to Lewandowski now, and Barcelona is a city where both he and those close to him feel very comfortable. That could prove decisive if he is asked to accept a less aggressive deal financially in exchange for staying another season.
That does not mean he is short of alternatives. Recent reports around his situation continue to point to strong outside interest, and there is still a clear sense that he has options beyond Barça. So the renewal is not automatic, even if the club want to move first.
Saudi Arabia and the United States are pushing, but Barça have a plan
As expected, the usual external market noise has returned around Lewandowski. The possibility of a move to Saudi Arabia or to the United States has been linked to the final stretch of his career for some time, while other reports have also spoken of interest from elsewhere in Europe.
Even so, the important point for Barcelona is that the club want to make their move before losing control of the situation. Hansi Flick wants a new striker to lead the next attacking cycle, but Laporta and Deco do not want a sudden break with Lewandowski. Their plan is more subtle: lower his contract, keep his presence and turn him into a direct support figure for the next number nine.
If Lewandowski accepts that new scenario, Barça believe they could secure a much smoother transition in one of the most sensitive positions in the entire squad. That is why the current picture is fairly clear. Barcelona want to renew Robert Lewandowski for one more year, but no longer under the rules of the past. There would be a salary cut, a different role in the dressing room and direct competition with the striker who arrives next. And inside the club, there is real belief that this coexistence could become one of the keys to the next project.
