The possible departure of Fermín López to Chelsea became the main topic at Barça during the last days of the transfer window. The substantial offer from the London club tempted the Andalusian midfielder, but he ultimately decided to remain in Barcelona. This decision turned out to be a positive outcome for the sporting interests of the Blaugrana team.
Ten days after the transfer window closed, the ‘Barça Reservat’ podcast revealed the conversations between the youth academy graduate and Flick and Deco amidst the entire saga. Fermín’s love for Barcelona and his desire to stay with the club were paramount, even though his entourage seemed more inclined to accept Chelsea’s offer.
According to the show, Fermín decided to speak with his coach as soon as he received the proposal from the Blues. It was then that Fermín told Flick that even though he wanted to stay at Barça, he was contemplating a move to Chelsea. His reasoning was that he felt he was unfairly limited in playing time the previous season despite his performance.

Flick’s Stance
On his part, Hansi Flick, who was unwilling to lose more players in the market’s final stretch, attempted to persuade the player. The German acknowledged Fermín’s feelings about last season but emphasized that he wanted him to stay and counted on him. However, he conveyed that he couldn’t promise more playing time due to the competition for his position.
The Conversation with Deco
As reported by ‘Barça Reservat’, Flick’s words reaffirmed Fermín’s decision to continue in Barcelona. Nevertheless, he later had another discussion with Deco. On this occasion, the Blaugrana’s sporting director showed understanding toward the youth player’s situation and told him that if a second Chelsea offer met the club’s demands, he wouldn’t block his sale.
This proposal never reached the Catalan club’s offices, as the English were not willing to meet Barcelona’s asking price. Hence, the outcome was favorable for Fermín and Flick, who wanted to continue their paths together. The Andalusian will have to fight for his place in the starting lineup, facing stiff competition from Dani Olmo.
