The internal tensions at FC Barcelona continue to generate reactions. Recent comments by Xavi Hernández about the club’s internal decision-making have now received indirect support from the environment of Lionel Messi.
According to journalist Sique Rodríguez on Carrusel Deportivo, people close to Messi consider that Xavi’s statements about the internal structure of the club reflect a reality that is slowly becoming clearer.
“The truth is slowly coming out, little by little… and there is still more to come,” sources close to Messi reportedly said.
Xavi’s comments about power inside Barça
The controversy originates from recent remarks by Xavi in an interview with La Vanguardia. In that conversation, the former Barcelona coach spoke openly about the influence of Alejandro Echevarría inside the club.
According to Xavi, Echevarría holds significant influence in the decision-making process at Barcelona.
“That’s how this Barça works. It’s practically run by Alejandro Echevarría,” Xavi explained.
He went even further when describing the internal hierarchy.
“He is someone who I believe is above the president.”
Xavi also revealed that when he wanted to resolve certain issues, he often requested meetings directly with Echevarría because he believed he was the person ultimately making key decisions.
Messi’s past statements resurface
These comments have also revived memories of what Messi himself said in 2023 when discussing his failed return to Barcelona.
At that time, the Argentine star admitted that he had seriously considered coming back to the club but ultimately chose not to.
“I wanted to return. I was excited about it, but after what happened when I left… I didn’t want to go through a similar situation again.”
Messi also revealed that he had heard the club might need to sell players or reduce salaries in order to bring him back.
“I heard they would have to sell players or reduce their wages to sign me, and I didn’t want that to happen.”
A debate that continues around the club
The combination of Xavi’s recent comments and the reaction from Messi’s environment has once again reignited debate about the internal dynamics within Barcelona.
While the club continues focusing on the sporting project led by Hansi Flick, the political and institutional discussion around the leadership of Joan Laporta remains very present in the background.
