Barcelona are looking at Ez Abde again with much more conviction than seemed likely just a few days ago. According to Cadena SER, Hansi Flick and his coaching staff were pleasantly surprised by the Moroccan winger’s performance in the recent Barça-Betis match. Their conclusions about his profile were very positive.
The novelty is not that Barça know the player well, but that he now also convinces the coach. Recent reports explain that Flick initially preferred a more proven winger. However, the detailed analysis of Abde’s display against Betis has clearly improved his internal rating.
That change has placed his name back on Barça’s agenda for the left wing. The club are studying several options for that position, but Abde now appears as a much more serious alternative. What once looked like a secondary route is starting to gain real weight.
Flick sees the winger he wants
The German coach wants an attacker capable of breaking matches through one-on-one situations. He wants speed, dribbling and attacking aggression from the left side. That is exactly where Abde fits well with what Barça are searching for.
His name gains even more relevance if Marcus Rashford does not continue. Several reports suggest Rashford’s future conditions that position heavily. If the Englishman leaves, Barça will need a winger who can offer direct threat immediately.
Abde also arrives backed by a very productive season. Cadena SER credits him with 14 goals and 13 assists in 42 matches, numbers that reinforce his candidacy. He is no longer only an electric winger, but a player with real production in the final third.
His Betis situation makes him special
Abde’s case is different from other wingers on the market because Barça still hold an advantageous position. When he was sold to Betis for €7.5 million, the Catalan club kept a buy-back option. Barça also retain 20% of his rights, according to the reports cited.
That makes his situation much more interesting than other similar profiles. Barça know the player, understand his strengths and have more contractual room than with many external targets. In a market where top wingers are extremely expensive, that matters a lot.
Even so, the operation is far from closed. Abde has a contract with Betis until 2029 and a €60 million release clause. Any return would depend on how the market evolves and whether Barça truly decide to activate that route.
His return gains strength
The conclusion around Barça is now quite clear. Abde has convinced Flick, his name has gained weight quickly and the club see him as a valid option for the left wing. That does not mean he is the absolute number one target, but he is no longer just a nostalgic former academy player.
If the market pushes in that direction and more expensive operations fall away, his candidacy could grow even more. Because of his profile, his knowledge of the club and the recent approval from the coaching staff, Ez Abde is once again very present on Barça’s radar.
