Anthony Gordon’s name is once again being linked with Barcelona, but this time with a very clear message. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Catalan club are not actively working on his signing right now. That significantly lowers the noise that had built around the English winger in recent days.
That does not mean the player is not liked inside the sporting department. It also does not mean he has disappeared completely from the club’s radar. Above all, it means there is currently no operation underway to bring him to Camp Nou.
That nuance changes the reading of a file that had started to gain strength. Barça still have much clearer priorities for this summer market. The club need to organise exits, generate income and decide carefully where to place each major investment.
Barça value him, but are not accelerating
The Newcastle winger is liked for his speed, dribbling and ability to punish opponents one-on-one. He also fits quite well with the vertical profile Hansi Flick often wants in attack. But there is a big difference between liking a player and launching a real operation.
The main problem remains the economic context and the total cost of the deal. Gordon would be a very expensive signing between transfer fee, salary and required salary margin. Barça cannot afford to open too many expensive fronts at the same time this summer.
That is why Romano’s information leaves a very clear idea in the current Barça market. There is no active negotiation, no open offensive and no defined priority around his signing. Today, Anthony Gordon is liked, but Barça are not working to bring him in.

The market remains open, but cold
That does not mean the situation cannot change later if the market moves. If other options fall away or the economic conditions change, his name could reappear. But right now, the reality is much colder than some rumours had suggested.
The conclusion is quite clear with this latest update on Barça’s table. Anthony Gordon is not ruled out as a profile, but he is not close to the Catalan club either. Right now, Fabrizio Romano makes it clear: Barça are not actively working on his signing.
