The artist has been chosen by Spotify for Barça to promote on their jersey in the upcoming El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabéu, set for Sunday October 26 at 16:15 as reported by MD. According to ‘Tu Diràs de Rac1’, the British sensation Ed Sheeran will take over from Travis Scott, the last singer to feature on the jersey in the previous Clasico.
The Seventh Artist
FC Barcelona and Spotify signed a sponsorship agreement that began in the 2022/23 season. It included having the music company’s logo on the front of the jersey, except during the LaLiga Clasicos, where Spotify can replace its logo with that of a specific artist as a marketing strategy. This is due to the global impact of the matches between Los Azulgranas and Los Blancos. So far, there have been six collaborations: Drake Bell, Rosalía, Rolling Stones, Karol G, Coldplay, and Travis Scott.
So far, Barça has had mixed fortunes whenever they’ve sported this special jersey for El Clasico. They won when donning the sponsorship of Rosalía (2-1), Coldplay (0-4), and Travis Scott (4-3), but lost with Drake (3-1), Rolling Stones (1-2), and Karol G (1-2)
Ed Sheeran, a Big Football Fan
Besides being a great and widely listened-to artist, Ed Sheeran is a huge football fan. In the summer of 2024, he acquired a minority stake in Ipswich Town after purchasing 1.4% of the shares of this football club in southeast England, currently in the Championship – equivalent to the second division.
Ed Sheeran remarked that any fan’s “dream” is to “own” their team and thanked for the opportunity to be part of the ‘Tractor Boys’, with whom he has been collaborating since 2021 as the main sponsor of their jerseys and to whom he has designed the third kit.
“Being an Ipswich supporter is a joy. There are ups and downs, but in football, you have to accept it. I’m not a voting shareholder or a board member, I’m just putting some money into the club I love, and it reciprocates, so please don’t ask me for suggestions on signings or tactics,” joked Sheeran.
