Bernardo Silva is once again very close to fulfilling one of his biggest football dreams. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Portuguese midfielder prefers to sign for FC Barcelona rather than Atlético Madrid. He has also decided to give the blaugrana club time to organise their market.
The operation would already be very advanced between the player and Barça. According to the same information, everything is agreed between the player and the club over a possible arrival. The big obstacle is no longer Bernardo, but Barcelona’s ability to create space.
Barça need to sell or release players before they can definitively close his signing. Cadena SER also reports that the club must accelerate exits in order to bring in the Portuguese star. The operation is liked, Hansi Flick approves it and Deco is working to make it possible.
Bernardo chooses to wait
Atlético Madrid have spent recent days trying to move quickly for the Portuguese midfielder. The red-and-white club saw a huge opportunity in a free, experienced and highly competitive player. However, Bernardo is reportedly clear that his priority is to wear blaugrana.
That gesture is important because it places Barça in an advantageous position despite their limitations. The club cannot close every operation immediately because of Financial Fair Play. But having the player willing to wait allows them to gain time without losing the race completely.
Mundo Deportivo had already explained that Bernardo was desperate to sign for Barça. The Portuguese midfielder offered himself as a free agent after ending his spell at Manchester City. That information also stressed that his arrival would depend on sporting and salary conditions.
Flick gives the green light
The most important new development is that Flick would now welcome his arrival. Days ago, there were doubts because the coach felt he already had too many midfielders. Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, the German manager does want to count on Bernardo.
That change could be decisive in unlocking an operation that needed sporting approval. Flick values his experience, versatility, tactical intelligence and ability to play in several positions. Bernardo can operate as an interior, attacking midfielder, right winger or control player.
For a Barça side that want to compete in Europe again, that profile carries huge weight. He would not be a future signing, but an immediate-performance piece for big nights. He would also arrive without a transfer fee, which is extremely attractive in the current financial context.
Exits will decide the signing
The problem remains salary space and room inside the squad. SER reports that Barça need to free up space before closing his arrival definitively. Players such as Roony Bardghji or Marc Casadó are among the names who could move.
The sale of Ansu Fati to Monaco also helps create margin for new operations. But Deco still has to organise more files before taking on another important salary. Bernardo would arrive for free, although his wages and possible signing bonus still require careful calculations.
Barça do not want to repeat planning mistakes or overload areas where they already have many players. Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Fermín López and Marc Bernal occupy a lot of space in midfield. That is why an exit may be necessary for the arrival to make full sense.
Atlético fall behind
Atlético’s presence adds pressure, but it does not appear to change the player’s priority. Bernardo has a proposal from the Madrid club, but he is willing to wait for Barça. That detail gives Deco more control over the timing of a very delicate operation.
The blaugrana club know they cannot sleep, because the market can change quickly. If exits are delayed too much, Bernardo could be forced to choose another path. Even so, right now the player has given Barça margin.
The outcome will depend on sales, Financial Fair Play and how quickly Deco can organise the squad. Bernardo has already done his part by choosing to wait and prioritising Camp Nou. And that is the twist: the signing is agreed, but Barça must sell first.
Caution note: This article is based on reports from Mundo Deportivo, Cadena SER and current market speculation. At the time of writing, there is no official agreement announced by FC Barcelona, Bernardo Silva or Atlético Madrid.
