Andrea Cambiaso has once again emerged as one of the names to watch in FC Barcelona’s transfer market. According to Fabrizio Romano, the blaugrana club have been monitoring the Juventus full-back for months. He is also included in a shortlist of three options to strengthen the left-sided defensive profile.
The information also rules out a move that had been circulating in recent days. Romano explained that there are no conversations between Chelsea and Cambiaso despite the recent rumours. That clarification allows Barça to remain attentive without Stamford Bridge appearing as an immediate threat.
The blaugrana interest fits into a defensive plan that is beginning to open several files. Barça have already sounded out names such as Marc Cucurella to strengthen the left-back position. Now, Cambiaso appears as a different alternative, younger and with major versatility.
Cambiaso fits because of his versatility
Cambiaso’s great value lies in his ability to play several defensive roles. He can operate as a left-back, wing-back and even appear on the right if the match demands it. That versatility is very attractive for a coach like Hansi Flick.
Barça are looking for full-backs with energy, range and the ability to sustain a high press. Cambiaso meets several of those requirements and also has experience at a club of maximum demand. His time at Juventus has consolidated him as one of the most interesting profiles in Italy.
Barça Universal, citing Romano, already explained that several important clubs are following him because of his performances. It also stressed that Barça have not yet made a formal decision on any move. For now, the club are observing, analysing and waiting to see how the market develops.
Juventus have strength
The main obstacle lies in the player’s contractual situation at Juventus. The Italian club officially announced in 2024 that he had renewed until June 30, 2029. That long contract allows the Turin side to negotiate from a very comfortable position.
That contractual protection also raises the price of any operation this summer. AS already reported that his market value was around €40 million. Clubs such as Atlético Madrid, Manchester City and Liverpool had also followed his situation previously.
Barça cannot afford to enter an uncontrolled auction for a left-back. Deco must measure exits, Financial Fair Play and priorities before presenting a serious offensive. That is why Cambiaso is highly liked, but his price could condition the whole operation.
The left-back position heats up
The monitoring of Cambiaso comes at a time of major activity in Barça’s defence. Alejandro Balde remains an important piece, but the club would listen to significant offers. The interest in Cucurella also shows that Deco is studying a broad defensive reorganisation.
Flick wants a more physical, competitive squad prepared to handle long matches. Having two high-level full-backs would help Barça manage La Liga, the Champions League and demanding rotations. In that scenario, Cambiaso would make sense as both a present and future signing.
The difference with Cucurella lies in profile and investment type. Cucurella would bring Premier League experience and knowledge of Spanish football immediately. Cambiaso, meanwhile, would offer youth, range, versatility and resale potential.
Deco keeps three routes open
Barça have not yet closed the identity of the left-back they will try to sign this summer. According to Romano, Cambiaso is part of a list of three options for that position. That detail confirms that the club are still comparing profiles before making a final decision.
The absence of Chelsea talks for Cambiaso also helps remove external noise. The Italian remains an open option, but not an advanced or close operation. Everything will depend on Juventus, the price and the exits Barça can activate.
The blaugrana defensive market is starting to take shape with several important names on the table. Cucurella, Cambiaso and other profiles are competing for a place in Deco’s planning. And that is the twist: Barça are searching for a left-back, and Cambiaso is already among the chosen names.
Caution note: This article is based on reports from Fabrizio Romano, Barça Universal, AS and current market speculation. At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between FC Barcelona and Juventus for Andrea Cambiaso.
