Roony Bardghji could become one of FC Barcelona’s unexpected exits this summer. The Swedish winger has asked the club to study an exit in this market. The player understands that his chances have been reduced after the latest attacking movements.
The situation has changed especially with the arrival of Anthony Gordon in the new blaugrana project. Barça made the Englishman’s signing official for €70 million fixed plus €10 million in variables. Gordon also signed for five seasons and arrives to have important minutes from day one.
Bardghji’s other major obstacle was already inside the club and is called Lamine Yamal. The academy player dominates the right wing and is untouchable in Hansi Flick’s planning. With Lamine ahead of him and Gordon adding more competition, the Swede sees his immediate path almost completely blocked.
Flick has been honest with him
Bardghji arrived at Barça as a young, cheap and high-upside bet. The club officially announced his signing in July 2025, with a contract until 2029. Back then, he was presented as a right winger with skill, speed and goalscoring ability.
The problem is not his daily attitude or his commitment in training. According to SPORT, as picked up by Fichajes.net, Flick values his effort and work. But the coach has also reportedly made clear that minutes will be difficult.
Lamine’s injury at the end of the season looked like an opportunity to gain prominence. However, Roony’s impact did not fully convince the coaching staff as expected. That feeling has pushed the player to look for a solution before becoming stuck.
A loan is the preferred route
Bardghji’s priority would not be to break definitively with Barça this summer. The footballer would prefer a loan to play, grow and return stronger. That formula would protect his future without completely closing his blaugrana chapter.
At 20 years old, the Swede needs competitive rhythm and continuity to develop his talent. Transfermarkt lists him as a right winger and confirms his contract with Barça until 2029. That contract length gives the club room to manage his future without rushing.
Barça will need to choose the destination very carefully if they finally opt for a loan. Sending him to just any club where he again plays a secondary role would not be enough. Roony needs real minutes, confidence and a context where he can assume attacking responsibility.
A sale is not ruled out either
Although a loan is the player’s preferred option, Barça are not ruling out other scenarios. The club’s financial situation forces them to study any proposal that could generate useful income. That is why a permanent sale could also enter the conversation during the market.
Even so, Barça would hardly let Bardghji leave without keeping some future control. A buy-back option or future percentage would make sense because of his age and potential. The club know that losing young talent without protection can become a major mistake.
Gordon’s arrival accelerates that reflection because it multiplies the competition in attack. The Englishman can play from the left, but also add minutes in other roles. With a more crowded front line, Bardghji’s space becomes even smaller.
Roony needs to play now
The Bardghji case sums up one of Barça’s biggest dilemmas with young talents. Keeping them without minutes can slow their development, but selling them too early also creates risks. Deco must find a formula that protects the club and helps the player.
For Roony, the objective is clear: play every week and recover competitive confidence. Staying another season waiting for isolated opportunities does not look like the best path right now. That is why his camp has already communicated the need to open conversations.
The outcome will depend on the offers, Flick’s plan and Deco’s final stance. Barça want to take care of a talent they still consider interesting for the future. And that is the twist: Bardghji wants to return one day, but first he needs to leave in order to play.
