The blaugrana club want to recover him for €7.2 million and loan him to Betis.
Jan Virgili is once again very close to entering FC Barcelona’s strategic plans. The blaugrana club are working to recover the Mallorca winger for €7.2 million. The idea, however, is not to include him immediately in Hansi Flick’s first team.
The plan with most internal consensus is to buy him back and loan him to Real Betis. Barça want to protect a future bet, but also avoid cutting important minutes. Virgili needs continuity at elite level before fighting for a stable Camp Nou place.
An operation planned calmly
Barça already protected themselves when they allowed the winger to leave for Mallorca. The club kept rights over a future operation and a preferential position. Now, Mallorca’s relegation has opened an opportunity Deco does not want to miss.
The €7.2 million figure makes the operation very reasonable for Barça’s current reality. In a market where young wingers become expensive quickly, Virgili looks controlled. His performances in LaLiga have confirmed Barça were right to monitor him.
The player has grown with minutes, trust and competitive experience away from Barça’s pressure. That maturity was exactly what the club wanted when they accepted his exit. Now, Barça want control back without rushing him into a crowded squad.
Betis appear as the ideal destination
The Betis option makes strong sporting sense for every party involved. The Andalusian club could lose Ez Abde and need attacking solutions out wide. Virgili fits through dribbling, youth, hunger and knowledge of Spanish football.
For the player, Seville could offer a perfect stage to keep growing. He would get LaLiga minutes, demanding competition and an attractive attacking structure. Barça, meanwhile, could follow his evolution without exposing him to excessive pressure.
The talks are still in an early phase, but the sporting fit looks clear. Betis need talent, Barça want future control and Virgili needs to play. That combination explains why the loan is becoming the most logical solution.
Flick has no immediate space
Barça’s first team has huge competition in the wide attacking positions. Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres and Anthony Gordon already condition any immediate arrival. That means adding Virgili now could slow his real progression.
Flick values young players with rhythm, but he does not want names without minutes. The coach needs a balanced squad with intensity and very clear roles. If Virgili returns without playing, the move loses sporting sense.
Barça understand the best investment is not always keeping the player immediately. Sometimes buying control and choosing the right destination creates more value. That is exactly the approach Deco wants to apply with the Catalan winger.
A future bet with economic meaning
The operation also has financial meaning for a Barça measuring every euro carefully. If Virgili keeps growing, his value could rise far beyond €7.2 million. The club could recover him, loan him, revalue him and decide later.
This is not only about reinforcing the attack, but recovering a projected asset. Barça know losing young talent can become expensive in later markets. That is why the move mixes sporting planning, financial opportunity and strategic control.
The outcome will depend on final agreements between Mallorca, Barça, Betis and the player. But the roadmap already looks quite defined inside the blaugrana offices. The twist is clear: Virgili may return to Barça, but his next shirt could first be Betis’.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between Barça, Mallorca, Betis and Jan Virgili.
