FC Barcelona is finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel in their long-awaited return to the iconic Spotify Camp Nou. The Ajuntament de Barcelona is expected to grant today the first occupancy license (phase 1A), allowing up to 27,000 fans to return to the stadium — filling the first two tiers of the Tribuna and Gol Sur.
After weeks of intense inspections and corrections, the club has officially met all city requirements, obtaining the green light to reopen the doors of its legendary home. Although Barça could technically welcome supporters right away, the management prefers to wait a few more weeks to ensure a smoother reopening with higher capacity.
The Long Wait for the License Finally Ends
Barcelona had been anticipating this moment for weeks. Originally, the club aimed to receive the license back in September, but minor deficiencies detected during inspections delayed the process. These have now been successfully resolved, allowing the construction to move forward at full speed.
The next major milestone is phase 1B, which would expand access to the Tribuna, Gol Sur, and Lateral sections, increasing total capacity to around 45,000 spectators.
Club sources indicate that this next approval could arrive by mid-November, pending further municipal inspections. If everything stays on schedule, Barça may make its official homecoming on November 22, possibly against Athletic Club — a date already marked in the calendars of every culé.
UEFA’s Role and the Final Countdown
One final hurdle remains: UEFA’s approval. Should the European body authorize the switch, Barcelona could host Champions League matches at the revamped stadium. Otherwise, European fixtures would have to wait until the group stage concludes.
Meanwhile, relations between the club and the local government are described as “extremely positive.” All previously reported technical deficiencies have been corrected, and cooperation between both parties is said to be fluid and constructive.
Optimism Returns to Barça
Within the club, optimism is sky-high. The Lateral area is now fully completed and under review by city inspectors. For the first time in years, the Blaugrana can almost touch their dream: coming home to Spotify Camp Nou.
This long and challenging journey is finally paying off. For the fans, it’s not just about bricks and seats — it’s about reviving the soul of FC Barcelona.
