FC Barcelona Femení, the women’s football team of FC Barcelona, has secured their place in the Champions League final after defeating Chelsea in the semi-finals. The team claimed a 2-1 victory on aggregate, following a 1-1 draw in front of 72,262 supporters at the Camp Nou on Thursday evening. The Catalans will now face either Arsenal or Wolfsburg in the final.

Let’s take a closer look at the match:

  • Goalless first half: The game got off to a slow start, with both teams struggling to find the back of the net in the first half. However, things would pick up in the second half.
  • Hansen’s goal: Just after the hour mark, Caroline Graham Hansen broke the deadlock with a well-placed shot that beat Ann-Katrin Berger in the Chelsea goal. Aitana Bonmati provided the assist after being set free on a breakaway by Mariona Caldentey.
  • Chelsea’s response: Chelsea responded quickly with a counter-attack that saw Sam Kerr denied by Barcelona goalkeeper Sandra Panos. However, the ball broke for Guro Reiten to fire an equalizer into the net for the visitors and offer the Blues a lifeline.
  • Nervy finish: The goal set up a tense finish, but Chelsea was unable to find another goal to send the tie into extra-time. FC Barcelona Femení held on to their lead to secure their place in the final.
  • Third consecutive final: This will be FC Barcelona Femení’s third consecutive Champions League final. The team has been dominant in the competition this season, winning 10 out of their 11 matches so far.

FC Barcelona Femení will be hoping to lift the Champions League trophy after losing the final last year. The team will face either Arsenal or Wolfsburg in the final. The second semi-final match will take place on Monday, with the tie currently level at 2-2 after the first leg in Germany.

Barça Femení beat Chelsea 2-1 on aggregate to advance to The Final of the Champions League.

It is their third final in three years.

They will face the winner of Arsenal vs Wolfsburg on 3rd June.
