Jorge Salinas has entered an interesting file inside FC Barcelona’s sporting planning. The young Racing Santander defender is liked for his left-footed profile, physique and versatility. He can play as a left-back or centre-back, a combination highly valued at Barça.
The blaugrana club have not closed any operation, but they are studying the case. The idea would be signing him now and leaving him on loan at Racing. That formula would secure his future without stopping the minutes he still needs.
An operation planned for the future
Barça are looking for young profiles who can grow without uncontrolled immediate spending. Salinas fits because he has margin, competitive experience and easy adaptation to Spanish football. His ability to play two positions also increases his strategic value.
Racing Santander consider him important after a season of major growth. His performances in Segunda División have placed him on several important radars. That is why Barça know waiting too long could make everything more expensive.
Leaving him on loan in Santander would make clear sporting sense for everyone. The player would keep competing regularly in an environment where he feels trusted. Meanwhile, Barça could control his development without using a first-team squad place.
The clause complicates the scenario
The biggest obstacle is the price currently protected by Racing Santander. Salinas’ clause is reportedly set at around €16 million. For Barça, paying that fee immediately for a developing player would be complicated.
That is why the sporting department are studying alternative formulas for a possible agreement. One option would be including a future-sale percentage for Racing. Another would involve an immediate loan that also helps the Cantabrian club sportingly.
Barça’s objective is to avoid a rigid operation and find a more manageable structure. Racing, meanwhile, know they have an asset with serious market interest. That tension will force Deco to be creative if he wants to move first.
A profile that fits Flick
Hansi Flick needs defenders capable of holding a high line and covering space. Salinas stands out for his physique, concentration and ability to adapt defensively. He is not a signing for tomorrow, but for a deeper future defence.
Barça also value that he can play left-back in more demanding running contexts. In other matches, his left-footed centre-back profile could improve build-up and balance. That double function makes him interesting in a very expensive defensive market.
The blaugrana squad need solutions that do not always require huge spending. Young defenders with projection have become very expensive across Europe. Detecting Spanish talent early can become an important competitive advantage for Barça.
Racing have the final key
The operation will depend on Racing’s will and Barça’s proposed formula. The Cantabrian club do not want to gift away one of their top talents. But a sale with loan and future percentage could attract every party.
For Salinas, staying one more year in Santander would not be a step backwards. He would get minutes, continuity and an ideal context before another jump. Barça could buy future, while Racing keep present during a key season.
For now, everything remains in a study, contact and financial evaluation phase. There is no closed agreement, but the interest responds to a clear need. The twist is clear: if Deco finds the formula, Jorge Salinas could become Barça’s silent bet.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between Barça, Racing Santander and Jorge Salinas.
