The sporting director tests two future profiles while Flick waits for reinforcements to complete his squad.
Deco continues working quietly to strengthen Hansi Flick’s project at FC Barcelona. The sporting director remains active in a market heavily conditioned by the World Cup. Two attractive names now appear on his agenda: Javi Guerra and Kang-in Lee.
Barça have not submitted a formal offer or opened advanced talks for either player. The meeting around Javi Guerra’s camp was mainly football-related and informative. However, the movement confirms Deco wants to be ready if a real window appears.
Javi Guerra returns to Barça’s radar
Javi Guerra is a profile Barça have followed for some time because of his physical qualities. The Valencia midfielder combines power, arrival, range and line-breaking from deeper areas. That type of player is not common in Barça’s highly associative midfield.
The footballer recently renewed with Valencia until 2029, which complicates any immediate operation. His release clause is also far from an accessible scenario for Barça today. That is why the interest must be understood as monitoring, not a prepared offensive.
The presence of his father and Javier Garrido in Barcelona increased market noise. But his camp insists Guerra is comfortable and not forcing an exit. Barça, meanwhile, collect information and wait before deciding any next step.
Kang-in Lee was also discussed
The meeting also served to discuss Kang-in Lee, a PSG player with strong market interest. The South Korean international is liked for technique, creativity and versatility between lines. His profile fits as an attacking resource, although he is not an absolute priority.
Atlético Madrid now appear as the most active club around his situation. In France and Spain, talks are mentioned around figures near €35 million. That forces Barça to move carefully if they want to avoid a bidding war.
Kang-in knows LaLiga, has differential quality and can adapt to several attacking roles. But Barça have other economic and sporting priorities before moving strongly for him. Deco asked, took note and keeps him inside a wider list.
Barça do not want to act on impulse
The financial context forces Barça to separate interest from real negotiation very clearly. Deco can speak with agents, test scenarios and understand conditions without bidding. That information network can become decisive once the market starts moving seriously.
Flick needs to improve the squad, but also wants to protect La Masia. Barça must balance external youth, internal talent and sustainable operations this summer. That is why every move is measured patiently before activating major investment.
The sporting department are also strengthening their tracking of players represented by the same agency. That strategy answers a wider idea: controlling talent before it explodes. At Barça, they understand that smart signings start long before formal offers.
Two names, no rush
Javi Guerra and Kang-in Lee are different profiles, but share something important. Both are young players with competitive experience and room to grow at a big club. Barça are watching them because they could become opportunities if doors open.
Valencia will not gift Guerra, and PSG will not easily release Kang-in. Atlético and other clubs could also move faster if Barça hesitate too long. Deco must decide whether either name deserves to become a serious operation.
For now, the message is clear: Barça are not closing those signings, but working. The meeting confirms the club want to be well positioned before the market changes. The twist is clear: Deco has not accelerated yet, but two more names are already on Barça’s table.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between Barça, Valencia, PSG, Javi Guerra or Kang-in Lee.
