Barcelona are already working intensely to find the striker who can replace Robert Lewandowski this summer. The sporting department consider it a priority to strengthen the area with a younger and more dynamic profile. In that scenario, Gonçalo Ramos is starting to sound very strongly inside the Barça offices.
The Portuguese attacker, currently at PSG, fits quite well with what Hansi Flick wants. He does not only offer goals, but also mobility, high pressing and good movement between the lines. That makes him an attractive option for a team that wants to change several things up front.
His situation in Paris also helps explain why his name is now gaining weight. Gonçalo Ramos has not had the expected prominence and wants to recover a much bigger role soon. That lack of continuity opens an opportunity that Barcelona are already studying closely.
Barça see a market opportunity in Paris
Inside the club, they understand this could be a much more realistic operation than others. The market demands intelligence, because Financial Fair Play continues to condition every major summer decision. That is why profiles like the Portuguese striker gain value over much more expensive targets.
PSG invested heavily in his arrival, but have not obtained the expected return so far. That could facilitate a negotiation for a much lower figure than the amount initially paid in France. There is talk of an operation around €30 million, a figure Barça could consider manageable.
That price is especially interesting for a squad that needs adjustments in several delicate positions. The club want to sign intelligently without compromising all their room for manoeuvre this summer. In that sense, Gonçalo Ramos appears as a much more logical route than other impossible options.
Flick wants more than just goals
The sporting department do not want a static finisher who only lives inside the penalty area. Lewandowski’s replacement must have mobility, aggression and the ability to combine naturally up front. The Portuguese international responds quite well to that profile Flick likes so much.
Ramos has already shown he can attack space, press with purpose and constantly occupy centre-backs. He also reads runs well and has attacking instinct for faster offensive transitions. That would allow Barça to have a more flexible attack, less dependent on one single register.
Another point liked inside the club is his age and medium-term competitive margin. At 24 years old, he would not be a temporary solution, but a striker for several demanding seasons. Barça want to build for the future, while also needing immediate impact after the Champions League blow.
Deco knows the summer depends on the number nine
The operation will not be simple because other clubs are also following the Portuguese striker closely. Milan and Juventus are attentive to any movement that could facilitate his PSG exit. But Barça’s appeal still carries weight when a player must decide an important step.
Now everything will depend on Deco’s ability to move this file without breaking the club’s internal balance. Barcelona need to get the new number nine right, because that decision will shape the next project. In that context, Gonçalo Ramos has stopped being a minor rumour and has become a real option.
Caution note: this situation is based on reported market interest and planning, not an official negotiation completed between Barcelona and PSG.
