Jan Virgili is again appearing in a very interesting file inside FC Barcelona. The blaugrana club are seriously studying the possibility of bringing the winger back this summer. The operation could be closed for a figure close to €7 million.
Deco has reportedly already met with the player’s representatives to analyse every possible scenario. Barça have not made a definitive decision, but they want the situation controlled. Mallorca’s relegation has changed the context and opened an unexpected market window.
An exit that was never definitive
Virgili left Barça to find minutes, continuity and real professional football experience. Inside the club, there was always a feeling that he was not completely lost. That is why his exit included mechanisms to recover future control.
The winger joined Mallorca with the idea of growing away from huge attacking competition. His progression interested Barça, but the first team could not guarantee immediate space. Now, his situation has changed and the sporting department is studying his name again.
Barça have very positive reports on a player who knows the blaugrana style perfectly. Virgili stands out for dribbling, speed and ability to play on both wings. That profile can help a squad looking for young and affordable alternatives.
The price turns it into an opportunity
The operation’s figure is one of the strongest reasons pushing Barça to move. Recovering Virgili for around €7 million could be smart sportingly and financially. In today’s market, a young winger with projection usually costs much more.
The club also value buying him back and deciding his final destination later. He could stay with the first team, leave on loan or generate a higher sale. That flexibility makes the file very attractive for Deco this summer.
Barça’s economic situation forces the club to study these opportunities very carefully. The team need talent, but also deals that do not block bigger priorities. In that sense, Virgili fits as a low-cost bet with future upside.
Flick may have the final word
Hansi Flick must decide whether the winger can fit his sporting planning. The German coach wants intense, vertical players capable of attacking spaces with conviction. Virgili can offer exactly that electricity Barça do not always have.
The competition, however, remains very strong on Barça’s current attacking wings. Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Ferran Torres and others reduce the immediate margin significantly. That means a possible return does not automatically guarantee a stable first-team place.
Barça must decide whether they want him as a resource or future investment. Preseason could help measure his level before any final sporting decision. If he convinces Flick, his return may make much more sense than expected.
A decision with sporting and financial meaning
The meeting with his representatives shows Barça do not want to miss any opportunity. The club know other teams could appear if Virgili becomes available. Moving early could prevent an accessible deal becoming a complicated auction.
For the player, returning to Barça would be huge but also very demanding. He needs minutes, trust and a project that does not slow his growth. Coming back only makes sense if there is a clear plan for him.
The Virgili case is now in Deco, Flick and Barça’s attacking planning. Barça can recover talent, protect value and gain flexibility for a reasonable figure. The twist is clear: what looked like a definitive exit could become a strategic buy-back.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between Barça, Mallorca and Jan Virgili.
