Barcelona have known for months who their great desire is to strengthen the attack. Inside the club, Julián Álvarez is seen as the ideal heir to lead the forward line. Because of his profile, age and competitive level, he remains the sporting department’s dream signing.
However, a much more realistic feeling is now starting to take over at Camp Nou. Taking the Argentine striker away from Atlético Madrid has become an extremely difficult operation. That is why Barça are already working on different alternatives to avoid becoming blocked.
The main difficulty is not only the price or Barça’s current financial situation. Atlético’s firm stance also weighs heavily because they see him as an absolutely strategic piece. Inside the Madrid club, they consider him non-transferable and feel no urgent need to sell.
Deco does not give up
Despite this very complicated scenario, Barça have not left the race yet. Deco has maintained constant contacts with Julián Álvarez’s camp for some time. Inside the club, they remain convinced that he has exactly everything they want for the new project.
The striker is liked for his mobility, pressing, link-up play and goals. He can play as a number nine, as a false nine and move across the entire attacking front. That makes him an ideal piece for the type of attack Hansi Flick wants to build.
To try to shake such a complex operation, Deco has already moved important contacts. The sporting director recently met with Juanma López, an agent highly regarded by both clubs. His figure appears as a key ally to try to open a door that currently looks almost closed.

Inside Barça, they value Juanma López’s ability to unlock difficult negotiations. He has already played an important role in recent operations and maintains strong relationships with relevant figures. His connection with Atlético also makes him useful in this particular file.
Even so, not even that movement suggests the case is close to being resolved right now. Sources close to the operation assume the signing remains extremely complicated today. Atlético do not want to open the door, and the player has not taken any definitive step.
That is precisely the point that could completely change the market scenario. Barça know only a clear message from the player would truly move everything. If Julián asked to leave, the story would change radically from the first minute.
Atlético remain the great wall
For now, nothing suggests that the striker will make that move soon. Julián Álvarez maintains a good relationship with Diego Simeone and remains well integrated at Atlético. Beyond some sporting blows, there is no expectation that he will force an exit soon.
That context forces Barcelona to act intelligently and not depend only on an impossible operation. The sporting department understand they cannot wait all summer for one name. That is why they are already working on other routes while keeping the main file alive.
The conclusion inside Barça seems quite clear with this situation on the table. Julián Álvarez remains plan A, but the club now accept how difficult signing him will be. Deco is not giving up, although the market already forces Barcelona to look far beyond him.
