FC Barcelona are already working on a major idea to strengthen their attack this summer. After the Champions League blow, the club believes it must raise its offensive level significantly. That is why two Atlético Madrid names are now gaining serious traction inside the sporting department.
The first is Alexander Sørloth, a striker Barça have already made initial moves for. The second is Julián Álvarez, the dream signing that would completely transform the front line. They are two very different operations, but both respond to the same need: more goals, more intensity, and more solutions in big matches.
Sørloth is gaining strength as the realistic option
Inside the club, Sørloth is seen as a more accessible and practical target for the current market. His profile stands out because of his physical presence, ability to pin defenders, and threat inside the box. That type of striker would give Barça something different in attack.
He is especially valued for matches where the team needs more weight up front and a more direct option in crowded areas. Barça believe he could complement other attacking profiles very well. That is why the initial contacts already matter — this is not just background noise.
From a financial point of view, his deal looks more manageable. In a summer shaped by Financial Fair Play restrictions, Barça know they must be careful with every step. Sørloth represents a route that feels much more achievable without completely destabilizing the budget.
Julián Álvarez is the big dream for Flick
The other file is much more ambitious and much more complicated. Julián Álvarez is loved internally because of his mobility, pressing, movement between lines, and ability to decide major games. For Hansi Flick, he would be a near-perfect fit.
The Argentine offers exactly the kind of forward Barça feel they are missing after the European setback. He can play as a striker, drop deeper, attack space, and maintain intensity for long stretches. That combination makes him one of the most attractive attacking options on the market.
There is also another encouraging detail from Barça’s point of view. According to the information around the situation, Julián would see Barça as a particularly appealing destination, even above projects like Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal FC. That does not make the operation easy, but it certainly keeps the dream alive.
Atlético are the biggest obstacle in the entire story
The real problem is not convincing the player. The real problem is negotiating with Atlético de Madrid, a direct rival that has no reason to make life easy for Barça. That is what makes the Julián operation so difficult from the start.
His contract situation, his importance inside Atlético’s project, and the rivalry between both clubs make this a very tense negotiation. On top of that, the financial demands would be massive. For Barça, it would likely require major sales, salary adjustments, and a huge strategic commitment from the board.
That creates a very clear contrast between the two operations. Sørloth looks like the realistic route, while Julián Álvarez remains the premium dream target. Both are on the radar, but not on the same level of difficulty.
Barça want more firepower and the market is starting to move
Inside the club, the conclusion is becoming increasingly obvious. Barça need more goals, more energy, and more attacking threat if they want to compete properly in Europe next season. That is why the idea of touching Atlético’s attack is now gaining real momentum.
The club also knows that the summer will be shaped by sales, wage adjustments, and strict financial limits. Every move will have to be calculated carefully. Still, the offensive priority is already clear, and these two names explain it perfectly.
Right now, the picture inside the offices seems well defined. Sørloth is generating concrete movement, while Julián Álvarez remains the big temptation. And if Barça really go after both Atlético forwards, this could become one of the biggest stories of the summer market.
