Julián Álvarez is once again right at the centre of FC Barcelona’s attacking plans. Inside the club, there is said to be genuine belief that the deal could be done, despite how difficult an operation of this size would be. In other words, Barça do not see this only as a dream signing, but as a move they still consider alive and potentially achievable.
That optimism is based on a very specific reading of the player’s current situation. At Barcelona, the feeling is that Julián may be looking for a more attacking environment, a bigger role, and a team built to compete for every major title, a context in which they believe he could take another step forward. That interpretation is one of the main reasons why the club continue to look at the deal with hope.
Inside the offices, he is also viewed as the ideal striker to begin preparing the post-Lewandowski era. The idea is for Robert Lewandowski to gradually move into a more secondary and mentoring role, while Julián Álvarez would become the major long-term attacking reference of the new project.
Even so, Barcelona know this move will not become real through internal desire alone. That is why Joan Laporta wants one very clear condition first: he wants Julián himself to make his position more public and send stronger signs that he is open to leaving Atlético. Within Barça, that gesture is seen as the key that could completely change the picture.

Barça believe in the operation, but do not want to move blindly
Barça’s optimism does not mean the negotiation would be easy. The biggest obstacle remains Atlético de Madrid, who see the Argentine as one of the central pieces of their project. Inside the Atlético environment, he is viewed as a major figure, which means resistance to any sale would be enormous.
That is where Barça see the real difficulty. It would not be enough to simply have money ready or to convince the player in private. If Julián does not make a visible move, Barcelona feel it would be too risky to launch themselves into such a complicated operation against a direct rival with no intention of making his departure easy.
That idea has already been hinted at from the top of the club. The message is clear: this would only make sense at a reasonable price and with a clear willingness from the striker himself. So even at board level, the player’s own desire matters almost as much as the financial side of the deal.
The whole summer could turn on one sentence
That is why the focus right now is not only on the numbers, but on the message. Barça believe they can sign Julián Álvarez, but they also believe the operation will only truly heat up if the player stops hiding behind ambiguity and makes it clearer that he wants to wear blaugrana.
At the moment, that lack of public definition is exactly what keeps the deal in uncertain territory. The club continue to see the signing as possible, Laporta is pushing, and Barça are already imagining the Argentine as a central piece of their future attack.
But before Deco launches the definitive move, everyone at Camp Nou is waiting for one gesture that could reshape the summer completely: a public sign from Julián Álvarez himself.
