Ansu Fati’s future is starting to move definitively away from FC Barcelona this summer. According to Get French Football News, Monaco are already working to activate their purchase option. The operation is valued at €11 million, a figure previously agreed with Barça.
The main obstacle to completing the transfer was the player’s personal terms. Ansu had to reach a salary agreement with the Monegasque club to make his continuity permanent. Now, according to GFFN, the parties are close to finding common ground.
The scenario represents an important twist for a player who needed to recover confidence away from Barcelona. Monaco offered him minutes, responsibility and a much more stable competitive environment. His performances have convinced the French club to bet on him.
Monaco want to keep him
Ansu’s loan came after he renewed his contract with Barça until 2028. The blaugrana club officially confirmed his temporary exit to Monaco until June 30, 2026. That formula allowed Barça to ease their salary bill while still protecting part of his future.
The agreement included a purchase option that Monaco are now seriously studying. AS reported that the French club want to trigger the €11 million clause for the attacker. Barça would also keep a clause linked to a possible future sale.
That decision is explained by Ansu’s sporting recovery this season. GFFN points out that the forward has scored 11 goals in 28 official matches. It also highlights that he has been decisive every few minutes, recovering sensations after several complicated years.
Salary was the big problem
Although the purchase price is affordable, the salary negotiation was much more delicate. AS explained that Monaco currently pay the forward around €250,000 per month. The French club wanted to renegotiate that figure before closing the permanent operation.
According to that same information, Ansu is willing to accept a salary reduction to continue. After several seasons marked by injuries, the player values the stability he has found. The Principality has given him back prominence, confidence and a real feeling of continuity.
That is why the personal agreement now appears as the key that could unlock everything. If the parties finish adjusting the salary, Monaco will activate the agreed purchase. For Barça, that would mean closing a necessary exit and receiving income this summer.
Barça gain margin
Ansu’s sale will not solve all of Barça’s economic problems, but it will help. Receiving €11 million for a player without an immediate place would close a complicated file. It would also reduce salary pressure and help organise Hansi Flick’s new project.
The blaugrana club are already working on several attacking signings to rebuild the front line. With Anthony Gordon on track and the search for a number nine still open, Ansu had very little space. That is why his continuity at Monaco can benefit every party.
Barça could also protect themselves with a future sale clause or a buy-back option. Cadena SER reported that the agreement could include a buy-back option close to €29 million. That route would allow Barça to avoid losing total control if Ansu explodes in France.
Ansu wants stability
For Ansu, staying at Monaco also means prioritising his career over an emotional return. The forward knows he would face huge competition and very few guaranteed minutes in Barcelona. In France, however, he has felt important again after a very difficult period.
His objective is to have a full season, without injuries and with weekly continuity. That stability could be key to recovering the version that once dazzled at La Masia. Barça understand that this path may no longer pass through Camp Nou.
The outcome is still not official, but the pieces are starting to fit clearly. Monaco want to pay, Ansu is moving closer on personal terms and Barça are waiting to close a useful exit. And that is the twist: Ansu’s definitive farewell could finally leave money in the club’s accounts.
