Òscar Gistau is smiling again, and inside La Masia that is already seen as one of the best news stories of the final stretch. The striker has left behind very difficult months of injuries, silent work and accumulated frustration. Now, little by little, he is recovering sensations and looking at the future with much more optimism.
It has not been an easy season for the attacker from Salou, nor a comfortable stage in his development. Injuries denied him continuity for a long time and slowed him down when he needed minutes most. Even so, inside the club they believe that difficult period has also made him stronger mentally.
After returning to train with Barça Atlètic several weeks ago, the striker has started to leave very positive signs. In this final stretch, he has added minutes with the Juvenil A and recovered important sensations on the ball. The best thing has not only been seeing him compete again, but seeing him feel like a footballer again.
A strong end to the season
The great release came at the most important moment of the Juvenil A’s final stretch. Gistau celebrated the league title and also scored a hat-trick in the decisive match. That day, he did not only score three goals, but also released a lot of weight.
A few days ago, he also added minutes in Tenerife and showed details that reinforced his improvement. He came on in the second half and had a couple of clear chances to reduce the deficit. It may seem like a small detail, but for him it was another sign.
Inside the club, they especially value that he now looks freer, more confident and more connected to competition. After so many physical problems, reconnecting with the pitch was the first real objective. That barrier is now clearly starting to fall behind him.
A different number nine
Next season will be especially important for Òscar Gistau inside the La Masia ecosystem. In his final year of youth football, he is expected to become one of the references for the new Barça Atlètic. The reserve team will undergo major attacking changes, and he is called to gain weight.
For some time, the club have considered him one of the best pure centre-forward projects in the academy. His classic number nine profile, with box presence, finishing and instinct, has always attracted attention. The big problem was never talent, but the lack of continuity caused by injuries.
At only 15 years old, he had already debuted and scored with the Juvenil A. That is not common for such a young striker and strengthened the feeling that Barça had something special. Now the challenge is reconnecting all that potential with consistency and physical stability.
Barça Atlètic need him
It will not be easy, because being a centre-forward at Barça has never been a comfortable path. Very few traditional academy number nines have later managed to establish themselves in the first team. That historical difficulty makes his case even more demanding and also more interesting.
However, the context of next season’s reserve team could favour him more than in other recent moments. Everything suggests names like Barberá, Ureña, Dani Rodríguez or Aziz may not continue in that attacking area. That would leave space, minutes and responsibility for a player who needs to feel important again.
The conclusion inside La Masia is becoming quite clear with Gistau. If his body respects him, the Salou striker can become one of the pillars of the next Barça Atlètic. After so much suffering, the club once again see in him the number nine they once marked as a major project.
