Hansi Flick has already told Barcelona what he needs to truly compete for the next Champions League. The German coach wants a more balanced, aggressive and reliable squad for the biggest nights. That is why he has pointed to three structural signings he considers essential.
The coach’s idea is not to collect names or sign players just for media impact. He wants very specific profiles to correct weaknesses seen in Europe and LaLiga this season. The message inside the club is clear: without those adjustments, competing with Europe’s giants will be difficult.
After the latest European blow, the Barça offices understand Flick’s diagnosis perfectly. The team needs more hierarchy at the back, more depth on the flanks and more threat up front. That is where a decisive summer begins for Deco, Laporta and the whole sporting project.

A left-footed centre-back to partner Cubarsí
The first major priority is strengthening the centre of defence with a very specific profile. Flick wants a left-footed centre-back with clean ball progression, authority and the ability to defend large spaces. The idea is to build a more solid partnership alongside Pau Cubarsí in demanding matches.
The name that attracts Barça most remains Alessandro Bastoni, one of the club’s great favourites. His experience, left foot and reading of the game fit very well with the Barça model. Even so, the club know it will not be an easy operation because of price and Inter’s position.
If that route becomes complicated, Barcelona will keep other alternatives open to avoid being left without solutions. Defence has been one of the most questioned areas this season because of mistakes and fragility. That is why Flick insists the new centre-back must arrive ready to lead from day one.
A right-back to compete with Koundé
The coach’s second request points directly to the right side of Barça’s defence. Barcelona want an offensive, deep and reliable full-back capable of seriously competing with Jules Koundé. This is not just about rotation, but about raising the general level of a demanding position.
Names such as Andrei Rațiu, Daniel Muñoz and Iván Fresneda appear on the agenda for that role. They all respond to a similar idea: energy, aggression, intensity and the ability to sustain long attacks. The coaching staff want more threat outside and less dependence on one fixed solution.
Flick also believes João Cancelo would perform better if settled permanently on the left side. That would help share minutes with Alejandro Balde and create better balance on both flanks. Signing a right-back would therefore help organise the entire defensive structure.
Julián Álvarez, the great dream in attack
The third major demand is up front, where Flick wants a striker with real hierarchy. Barcelona need goals, mobility and a forward capable of combining without losing aggression in the box. That is where Julián Álvarez appears as the club’s great dream.
The Argentine is highly rated for his pressing, movement, versatility and ability to play in several roles. He would be the ideal heir for an attack preparing for a possible future without Robert Lewandowski. The problem is obvious: his price is huge, while PSG and Arsenal are also pushing strongly.
Even so, Barça maintain that this is the type of profile Flick needs most. He does not want a static finisher, but a forward who activates the press and constantly attacks space. If Deco manages to approach any of these three signings, Barcelona will take a real step towards Europe.
Caution note: this situation is based on reported planning and transfer priorities, not official completed signings by Barcelona.
