The blaugrana club keep the Argentine as priority, but already have a young alternative in the Premier League.
Julián Álvarez remains FC Barcelona’s great dream to strengthen the attack. But Deco knows the operation with Atlético Madrid is still extremely difficult. That is why Junior Kroupi appears as the big plan B if the Argentine’s signing collapses.
The Bournemouth striker has been liked for some time by Barça’s sporting department. He does not have Julián’s name or experience, but he has huge projection. Barça see him as a future bet capable of growing inside Hansi Flick’s project.
Julián remains the priority
Barça have not changed their order of preferences for next season’s attack. Julián Álvarez remains the name generating the strongest consensus inside the club. Flick considers him ideal because of pressing, mobility, goals and competitive mentality.
The problem is that Atlético do not want to negotiate an easy exit. The red-and-white club maintain a very hard position and protect him with a long contract. Institutional tension with Barça has also turned the operation into a huge battle.
Deco is preparing scenarios, offers and formulas, but knows the case can collapse. If Atlético do not give in or the operation explodes financially, Barça need alternatives. That is where Kroupi is starting to gain weight inside the planning.
Kroupi, a different bet
Junior Kroupi represents a very different profile from Julián Álvarez right now. He is younger, has less international experience and remains far from the Argentine’s level. But his talent, speed and finishing ability make him a very attractive option.
Barça were already following him before his arrival in English football. His growth in the Premier League has confirmed he is a special striker. He would not be a total immediate-impact signing, but a major future investment.
Flick values mobile, aggressive forwards able to attack spaces throughout entire matches. Kroupi fits that idea through energy, movement and presence in finishing areas. Even so, he would need adaptation, patience and a careful environment.
Bournemouth will not gift him away
The biggest problem in the operation is the price Bournemouth could demand. The English club have no need to sell one of their biggest attacking jewels. The Premier League also makes every young talent with projection much more expensive.
In England, very high figures have been mentioned, even close to €100 million. Barça would value him much lower, closer to a €70 million range. That difference could turn an interesting alternative into a very complicated negotiation.
Deco could try to include players or creative formulas to reduce the financial impact. But Bournemouth know other big clubs are also following the French striker. PSG, Liverpool and Arsenal have appeared as possible threats if the market heats up.
Barça prepare their safety net
Kroupi’s appearance as plan B shows Barça do not want to depend only on Julián. The club will keep pushing for the Argentine, but must protect itself from failure. In such an expensive market, arriving late for a striker could be decisive.
Kroupi fits better as a strategic investment than an absolute solution for the present. If he arrives, he will need time to adapt to Barça’s pressure. But he could also become one of those bets that explodes earlier than expected.
The summer still revolves around Julián Álvarez, Atlético and a gigantic operation. But Deco is already watching England in case the Argentine dream gets blocked. The twist is clear: if Julián falls through, Junior Kroupi could activate Barça’s plan B.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between Barça, Bournemouth and Junior Kroupi.
