Barcelona are still looking for a decisive striker for next season, and João Pedro is gaining more and more weight. The Brazilian attacker is highly rated inside the Catalan club and appears as a top-level alternative for the attack. His profile fits especially well with the style Hansi Flick wants for the new project.
The change of focus makes sense within the market the sporting department are currently handling. Julián Álvarez remains Barça’s great dream, but PSG’s strong interest makes that operation extremely complicated. With that scenario, João Pedro’s name is starting to sound much stronger inside the Camp Nou offices.
Deco is not arriving late to this file, far from it. Recent reports point out that he has followed the player since his time at Brighton and has always valued his qualities highly. That explains why his candidacy appears so high when Barça review serious options for the striker position.
Flick wants a striker with more registers
What Barça like most about João Pedro is that he is not a rigid centre-forward or a pure box striker. He can play as a number nine, move wide, drop inside and participate heavily in attacking construction. That versatility is especially attractive for Flick, who wants more mobility, pressing and aggression up front.
His recent performance has also strengthened his reputation in England even further. Different reports place him around 20 goals this season with Chelsea, a figure that confirms his growth. Barça understand that his arrival would bring goals, energy and a different threat across the whole attack.
At 24 years old, he would not be a short-term patch or a solution for only one campaign. The Brazilian has the age to lead a new attacking era for several seasons. That also makes him a coherent signing for a squad that wants to mix youth, present quality and competitive development.
Chelsea do not open the door
The main barrier is not whether Barça like the player, because that interest is very clear. The big problem is that Chelsea consider him a very important piece and have no intention of selling. Fabrizio Romano has insisted precisely on that point in recent hours.
His contract situation leaves even less room for any Barça attempt right now. João Pedro signed with Chelsea until 2033, meaning the London club completely control the timing of any negotiation. Taking him away would require a huge operation involving transfer fee, salary and additional conditions.
That is why, although Barça value him highly and see him as a top attacking option, the signing remains very difficult. Everything will depend on how the market evolves in the coming weeks and whether Chelsea change their position. Today, João Pedro is greatly admired at Camp Nou, but remains an expensive, heavy and very complicated operation.
Caution note: this situation is based on reported interest and market planning, not an official negotiation completed between Barcelona and Chelsea.
