Ronald Araújo’s name is back in the market, but Barcelona have no intention of giving him away. Inter Milan have reportedly shown interest in signing him in recent hours. However, the answer coming from Barcelona cools almost any real possibility.
The main reason is the valuation Barça place on their Uruguayan defender. The Catalan club would ask for around €50 million to let Araújo leave this summer. In Italy, that figure is currently seen as making the operation practically impossible.
But this is not only about money between the two clubs. Araújo himself is also not keen on changing scenery at this stage. His intention remains to fight at Barça and recover weight inside the project.
Inter like him, but see him out of reach
In Milan, the Uruguayan international’s profile is highly rated because of his physicality, aggression and competitive experience. It is no surprise that Inter have sounded out his situation while thinking about strengthening their defence. Even so, the operation starts uphill from the first minute.
The Italian club understand that €50 million is a very high figure for their current reality. Especially for a player who is not pushing to leave Camp Nou. That means the interest exists, but the move does not go beyond a very complicated idea.
Barça are also not in a position where they urgently need to sell at any price. The club can listen to important offers for several squad names this summer. But in Araújo’s case, there does not seem to be a clear will to facilitate an exit.
The Bastoni swap does not move forward
Alongside the interest in Araújo, another possibility had appeared that sounded especially striking. A swap with Alessandro Bastoni could have looked interesting on paper. Right now, however, that route does not seem like a real option between the clubs.
The scenario cools because several factors stop that agreement from taking shape. Inter do not want to lose Bastoni easily, and Barça are not pushing Araújo out. When neither piece is moving clearly, the swap quickly loses strength.
The Bastoni operation is also already weakened by price, context and Barça’s other priorities. Defence is not currently the club’s main market file ahead of the striker and winger positions. That further reduces the chances of both names ending up linked in one negotiation.
Araújo wants to stay
The conclusion inside Camp Nou seems quite clear with everything surrounding the centre-back. Inter can ask, but Barça consider Araújo expensive and the player does not want to leave. That is why the Italian interest creates noise, but very little real movement.
As things stand, Ronald Araújo does not look close to leaving Barça this summer. The possible swap with Bastoni is also not gaining strength in either club’s offices. Right now, everything points to the Uruguayan staying in Barcelona and fighting for his place again.
Caution note: this situation is based on reported interest and market speculation, not an official negotiation completed between Barcelona and Inter Milan.
