Raphinha, the Brazilian winger for Barcelona, is contemplating leaving the club at the end of the season. According to SPORT, this decision is strictly based on sporting matters, as he has not received any pressure from the coaching staff or the sporting direction to accept any of the offers he has received from the Premier League.
The winger fears he will have far fewer quality minutes next season as Ousmane Dembele is Xavi’s favorite for his natural position. Raphinha would start the season as a substitute. Furthermore, the possible repatriation of Leo Messi would also reduce the number of minutes for other strikers, even if they do not occupy the same position.
Raphinha has had a successful first season in Blaugrana, with 10 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. However, he is concerned about losing his place in Brazil’s starting line-up if he is not a regular starter at Barcelona.
Although Raphinha is happy and adapted to the club and the city, he has not ruled out leaving. He has not yet decided which club to join, but his agent, Deco, has three offers from Chelsea, Arsenal, and Newcastle. All three offers ensure a higher salary than the 12 million euros gross he receives at Barcelona. However, Barça will only authorize his departure if there is a transfer price between 70 and 80 million euros.
Chelsea reignites interest in Raphinha
Chelsea is looking to add Raphinha to their roster during the upcoming summer transfer window. The player, who left a positive impression on Leeds United during his two-year stint there, is said to be willing to listen to offers.
Chelsea’s disappointing season has seen them miss out on next season’s continental competitions, leading to a complete overhaul of their squad to build a competitive team. The Blues previously attempted to secure Raphinha last summer with a reported deal worth £65 million, but the player decided to wait until the last minute to sign with Barcelona.
However, Chelsea’s interest in Raphinha has not waned. The club’s relationship with his agent, Deco, remains strong, and discussions regarding a possible transfer have continued. Barcelona is open to a transfer, provided the offer is between 70-80 million euros.
The price point is reasonable for the Premier League’s reality and similar to what Chelsea was willing to pay last summer. Antony’s high transfer fee last season had caused Manchester United to pass on Raphinha.
Economically, Raphinha would be satisfied with Chelsea’s compensation, which would be higher than his current salary of 12 million euros.
