The Parisian club are not interested now, despite rumours shaking the Frenchman’s future.
Jules Koundé is once again moving at the centre of the market, but with an unexpected twist. After several rumours placing him close to Paris Saint-Germain, the file is clearly cooling down. According to Djamel, the Parisian club are not interested in the FC Barcelona defender for now.
The information changes the tone of an operation that seemed to be gaining strength recently. In Barcelona, there had been talk of important offers because Barça need income. However, PSG would not currently have Koundé inside their immediate plans.
The rumour loses strength in Paris
Koundé’s name had been linked to PSG because of his level, experience and defensive versatility. Luis Enrique knows LaLiga well and values profiles able to play different roles. But that sporting connection does not mean a real offensive exists from Paris.
The denial greatly reduces tension around a possible move to the French champions. PSG have other market priorities and are not currently working on that operation. That means Barça cannot count on this route as a close sale.
For Deco, the news has two readings inside Barça’s summer planning. On one hand, a possible major financial entry loses strength quickly. On the other, the club keep a defender with sporting weight and a long contract.
Koundé maintains a strong position
Koundé is not in a weak contractual situation or easy for buyers. The Frenchman has a contract with Barça until 2030, which protects the club strongly. Any interested club would need to pay big money to open serious talks.
The player has also made clear he is not obsessed with leaving immediately. His public message has been continuity, commitment and focus with the French national team. That makes any external attempt even harder without a huge proposal.
Barça, meanwhile, have not officially placed Koundé openly on the market. The economic situation forces them to listen for almost everyone, but not gift assets. And the Frenchman remains one of the most valuable profiles in the squad.
Flick still needs his versatility
For Hansi Flick, Koundé still offers something difficult to find in today’s market. He can play right-back, right centre-back or defender in a back three. That versatility is very useful for a squad facing huge competitive demands.
It is true his performances have generated debate during parts of the season. It is also true Barça must decide what happens with several defenders. But losing Koundé without a huge offer would be an obvious sporting risk.
Flick wants a fast, aggressive defence capable of defending large spaces behind. Koundé, despite doubts, meets many of those requirements inside the German model. That is why his case cannot be analysed only through money.
The Premier League remains a possible threat
PSG have cooled, but that does not completely close Koundé’s future. The Premier League has followed the French defender closely since his Sevilla days. Chelsea, Liverpool and other English clubs know his value and profile perfectly.
Barça know England could appear with money if an opportunity opens this summer. A major Premier League offer would now make more sense than the Paris route. But without a formal proposal, the file remains far from a guaranteed exit.
The situation leaves Barça waiting, without rush or need to force anything. Koundé keeps market value, contract strength and sporting use, while PSG step away. The twist is clear: the market will keep talking, but today Paris no longer looks like the hot destination.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between Barça, PSG and Jules Koundé.
